Both these exams are accepted for admission at BITS. GATE rank is not compulsory for admission in BITS if you have already appeared for BITS HD. The admission at BITS is conducted in two ways. Firstly, you can appear for GATE and get selected to BITS on the basis of your GATE score. Secondly, you can appear for the BITS HD exam and get selected to BITS on the basis of your score in BITS HD.

After the cutoffs are declared for these exams, the counseling process starts. During your counseling session, your marks in either GATE or BIT HD will be considered along with your preference for specialization as well as the campus of BITS. There are three campuses of BITS and you will be allotted a seat on the basis of availability and your overall score.

BITS is one of the best options for management studies. There are two main pathways to gain admission into BITS (Birla Institute of Technology and Science) for higher degree programs like M.E. or M. Pharm: through the BITS HD exam or via the GATE exam. Each of these pathways has its own advantages and considerations.

Advantages of GATE for Admission into BITS:

  • Scholarship Stipends: GATE-qualified students are eligible for scholarship stipends of Rs 13,400. This financial support can be beneficial during your higher education journey.
  • Wider Acceptance: GATE is a nationally recognized and widely accepted exam for admission into various technical higher degree courses. It opens doors to numerous institutions and universities across India.
  • International Opportunities: GATE scores are also accepted by some foreign universities, including Germany and Singapore. This provides international study opportunities for aspiring students.
  • Career Options: GATE qualification doesn't limit you to BITS alone. It also makes you eligible for opportunities in Public Sector Undertakings (PSUs), research positions, and prestigious government and private organizations with competitive salaries.

Considerations for BITS HD:

  • Reserved Seats: BITS has a policy of reserving 50% of its seats for GATE-qualified candidates and the remaining 50% for students who take the BITS HD exam. It's important to be aware of this distribution.
  • Rank Not Mandatory: Unlike some institutes, BITS does not require you to achieve a specific rank in the GATE exam to be considered for admission through BITS HD. This flexibility can be advantageous.

Ultimately, the choice between GATE and BITS HD for admission into BITS for higher degree programs depends on your specific goals, financial considerations, and preferences. Both pathways offer opportunities for academic and career growth.

M.E from Birla Institute of Technology and Science, Pilani (2018)

If you want to take admission in M.E. or M.Pharm course which is offered by BITS then you need to undertake BITS HD exam and GATE is totally exempted and vice-versa. Hence, getting admission into BITS higher degree program, you have two ways: Either go for GATE or through BITS HD.

Although there are some pros to get through the gateway of GATE:

  1. Offer scholarship stipends of Rs 13,400. But you can also earn on campus by assisting in teaching irrespective of your admission pathway.
  2. Also, GATE is the most acceptable exam nationwide for getting admission into any higher degree technical course.
  3. GATE scores are acceptable by some foreign universities as well as Germany, Singapore, etc.
  4. You'll always have options to join big PSUs and conduct research work anywhere.
  5. Eligible for interviews in many prestigious govt and private organizations with handsome salaries.

It is not at all necessary for you to get a rank in the GATE exam, for getting into BITS despite writing BITS HD. Although few changes have been made that you should consider before applying. BITS has introduced a system from 2018-19 to reserved 50% of its seats for admission through GATE candidates and the rest of 50% seats are reserved for student's admission through BITS HD.
