Which college is better, VIT Vellore or IEM Kolkata?

While VIT is an excellent choice for students who can afford the fees. If you cannot afford VIT, there are other good options to consider, such as Heritage Institute of Technology Kolkata (HITK), Techno Main Salt Lake (TMSL), and IEM Kolkata (IEMK). These colleges have decent infrastructure and placement records and offer courses across various disciplines.

It is of no doubt that these two colleges are compared. Students consider VIT the second best university after BITs. But when payment is involved, IEM Kolkata is better than VIT or BITs. Also, IEM is considered to be the best private engineering college in Kolkata with the selection based on JEE or WBJEE.
- IEM is one of the best in Kolkata among private colleges, but considering VIT it doesn’t even come close.
- VIT, Vellore has a better brand value, but if you are from Kolkata and don’t want to pay a high amount as 15 lakh then IEM is the best choice.
- IEM is a lot cheaper but VIT has a beautiful infrastructure with necessary facilities.
- The campus life is nil and the discipline is very strict at VIT.
- Coming to the placements, IEM offers a basic package of about 3-4 LPA. And many of my colleagues were able to grab a package of above 6 LPA.
- Also, many companies offered placement packages of around 5-8 LPA. Some companies did come with the package of 11 LPA. But there were no Amazon or Microsoft as one can see in VIT.
- Apart from this, thinking about campus, tuition fee, cost of living, and placements, it’s all your decision to join a college, knowing its pros and cons.

No doubt, IEM is a decent college. But VIT overshadows it in all aspects. Whether it is then culture, infrastructure, learning, facilities, campus life, placements and much more.
You may choose VIT over IEM any day. But if nostalgia overpowers you can go for IEM.
Just for an overview, VIT just placed 8 of his students with the package of around 40 LPA in Amazon and Microsoft. You must be clear with your thoughts and choose wisely.
