If you have the required skill set, you can get interview calls from these companies. If you belong to some IIT, you will certainly have some advantage over the others.
Is Thapar University better than VIT placement-wise?

The biggest factor is that a lot of companies visit Thapar and so it is easier to get a placement there. The placements are better in Thapar.
