Which is better, NIT Silchar's electrical or NIT Surathkal's metallurgy?

One of my friends studied in NIT Silchar and also has friends in NIT Hamirpur. I asked him the same question and he claimed NIT Hamirpur to be a better choice. 

Stating reasons for the same he said:

• NIT Hamirpur campus is extremely beautiful and well-equipped with modern facilities.
• The level of academics is better at NIT Hamirpur than at NIT Silchar.
• The faculty pool of NIT Harimpirbis more experienced and approachable.

The major issue that NIT Silchar faces is the connectivity between cities. As a result, many recruiters are interested in coming here affecting the placement scenario and crowd quality largely. NIT Hamirpur on the other hand is located close to Delhibso the exposure r and opportunities are better.

Both NITs offer Btech courses for Electrical Engineering and Metallurgy Engineering. NIT Silchar is ranked 46 for BTech by NIRF 2020 whereas, NIT Surathkal is ranked 13 for the same by NIRF 2020.

Electrical at NIT Silchar:

Curriculum:

The course structure is dynamic to meet the ever-changing requirements of the industrial market. The core courses are Power Systems, Control Systems, Electrical Machines, Instrumentation, Switchgear and Industrial Protection, Microprocessors and Microcontrollers.

Admission:

• The admission to BTech Electrical Engineering is based on the JEE Mains rank. The required cutoff last year was 23469.
• No. of seats available for the course is 157 and the total course fees are 5.56 lakh.

Metallurgy at NIT Surathkal:

The department offers intensive training in conventional metallurgy involving both practical and theory.

Admission:

• The admission for BTech Metallurgy is through JEE Mains and the required cutoff changes every year. In 2019 the required cutoff was 22825 (other states), and 29465 (home state).
• No. of seats available for the course is 54 and the total course fees are 5.39 lakhs.

The placement details for Electrical at NIT Silchar and NIT Surathkal are as follows.

The top recruiters at NIT Silchar are Wipro, Infosys, OFSS, ZS, ABB, Vedanta, HPCL, Power Grid, POSOCO. Some of the major recruiters at NIT Surathkal are Fidelity, Vedanta, JSW ExxonMobil.

Highlights of NIT Silchar and Surathkal:

• The infrastructure of NIT Silchar is average when compared to NIT Surathkal.
• In both, the institutions almost all the teachers were experts in their fields. When it comes to curriculum the colleges need to be updated.
• The hostel accommodation is excellent with 24 hours of electricity, water, three times meals, gym facility, and playground.

The final decision should be taken from the student’s side because they have to choose the institution according to their area of interest.
