It's true that NIT Raipur was considered an average NIT but the current scenario begs to differ given the fast-paced growth it has witnessed over the past few years. Its infrastructure has improved for the better and more changes are on the way. The campus has also improved in terms of facilities, environment, and convenience. The laboratories are now equipped with better instruments and all obsolete ones have been discarded. NIT Raipur also has one of the largest libraries amongst all the NITs and the largest digital library even better than some IITs and NITs.
Addressing the elephant in the room, the placements too are commendable. Big IT shots like Amazon, Oracle, Samsung, UHG, and others visit the campus and offer decent packages. Last year, NIT Raipur's average package stood at INR 10.1 LPA. The maximum number of offers were received by the IT and Mechanical students. Out of 101 recruiters, the top ones included Wipro, Capgemini, Infosys, Adobe, Aditya Birla Group, etc. Additionally, students from NIT Raipur bag excellent ranks every year in GATE, GRE, CAT, etc.
In a nutshell, I dont NIT Raipur is in any way average. In fact, it's one of the best engineering colleges in India.
My friend is about to finish his 1st year at NIT Raipur. According to his experience, NIT Raipur is considered average because of the following unfortunate reasons.
Average academics/faculty:
Average infrastructure:
Average placements:

Overall, NIT Raipur has a lot to improve, whether it is the curriculum, faculty, or the infrastructure. So, don't come here with high expectations as you will surely be disappointed.
