How is the placement for an MTech in CSE at IIT Ropar?
IIT Ropar Placements 2023 were recently concluded and recorded 80.85% placements for the B.Tech batch. IIT Ropar highest package was recorded at INR 55 LPA whereas the average package was recorded at INR 22.49 LPA for B.Tech.
A few top firms that visited IIT Ropar for placements included Goldman Sachs, Amazon, Infosys etc.IIT Ropar MTech CSE recorded an average package of INR 18.94 LPA in 2022 with 100% placements.
How was your interview experience at IIIT Delhi for an M.Tech in Computer Science?
This is how my interview at IIIT Delhi for M.Tech CSE went-
At first, we took an MCQ based aptitude test. The allotted time was divided section-wise. After that, around 160 people were shortlisted for an interview, and 6-8 panels were formed. Every panel asked a different set of questions.
I was asked about my background, and the reason for doing an M.Tech. Then the professor asked me for the subjects I was confident in. I chose DS and Algorithms. I had to come up with a suitable data structure for a situation. I had to also write a code for the same. The professor kept on modifying the constraints, and I modified the solutions accordingly.
It was an intense discussion. At the end, I was asked if I had any questions. Finally, he told me to go. Some panels asked questions on OS, DBMS, CN. Some candidates were even asked questions based on their current job.
Though I wasn’t selected, the interview experience was quite good for me.
What advice would you give to someone who would be joining Mtech CSE programme at IIT kanpur?
For any program, the most important part is what you are expecting from it after completing it. Here, your expectations after completing the MTech CSE program at IIT Kanpur will determine how you plan your Masters. For instance, do you want exposure in a particular field day mining or do you want exposure across various fields? Some might prefer to pursue a theoretical project for their major's thesis while some prefer working on a practical system. Fortunately, the curriculum at IIT Kanpur is very flexible and provides the right blend of both theoretical knowledge and research work.
Here are a few pieces of advice that will help you gain maximum advantage from the MTech in CSE at IIT Kanpur
- Make sure you go for challenging courses only else, you will end up with a laid-back attitude
- If you aren’t sure of your area of expertise, go for a course that is taught by the best professors.
- During the literature survey part of your thesis work, participate with full focus even if your advisor isn’t very helpful.
- Make sure your thesis is well-structured and not very long. Talk to your advisor about the same.
- Work on your thesis from the start else you will regret it later. You need to live up to the standards of your advisor
- Choose your advisor wisely based on your expectations from the thesis
- Work on mini-side projects, and participate in hackathons which are a good learning experience.
- Attend the seminars held by famous researchers to broaden your knowledge base
- During placements don’t focus entirely on salary and make sure you get your dream job that also utilizes your skills well.
- Explore your interests outside academics to ensure full exposure.
All these points will help you maximize productivity for your time spent as an MTech student at IIT Kanpur.
