The University of the Highlands and Islands is an integrated university catering to higher education needs of students since 1992. The institute is a part of tertiary institutions among the only one in Scotland and only few in the world. The Iverness College of UHI is also the first institution to receive Carers Trust Going Higher for Student Carers Recognition Award in Scotland. It has around 10,000 higher education students and 31000+ further education students enrolled in both full time and part time courses. Out of the total student population, 2% are international students studying in the UK.
In 2017-18 academic years it had an astonishing figure of 70.3% students passing further education courses which is higher than the national average figure. It also received a score of 89% student satisfaction in Postgraduate Taught Experience Survey which is tenth out of 84 institutions across the UK. In science, technology, engineering and math programs it was rated no.1 in the UK for student satisfaction.

UHI Millennium Institute Campus
- It has 13 colleges and research centers and over 70 local learning centers.
- Out of all locations, students are allowed to select any of the campuses as per their convenience.

UHI Millennium Institute Residence
- Some campuses of the Institute have dedicated accommodation facilities.
- The institute’s residence facilities are maintained by City Heart Living (Scotland) Ltd.
- Applications for residence must be submitted early as rooms are allotted on a first come first serve basis. Only submitting an application does not guarantee a place in the residence hall.
- Students can choose a private rented accommodation option through the institute’s assistance.

UHI Millennium Institute Scholarships/Financial Aid
- There are different scholarships, discretionary funds and bursaries available to students pursuing courses in the college.
- If a student is from Scotland the SAAS Students Awards Agency for Scotland normally pays the fee. It also provides student loans and aid in other forms like Young Students' Bursary, Independent Students' Bursary, Additional Loan and Supplementary Grants.
- Students pursuing part-time courses can get up to 200 EUR towards the cost of a training course with an SDS Individual Training Account (ITA).
- A number of scholarships are awarded to international students from external agencies.
- International students are categorized and given funds in the form of scholarships like Canadian Centennial Scholarship, Chevening Scholarships, Saltire Scholarships, and South Asia Subcontinent Scholarship etc.
- University Scholarship Fund is one such scholarship available to both EU and non-EU students awarding 1000 EUR each.
