If students already have experience of working in the IT industry, the Information Technology programme at Birkbeck, University of London provides opportunities for broadening and deepening students knowledge and skills; if students do not have previous experience, it provides a platform for a career in the IT industry.
Students will reach an advanced level of understanding of computers, computing, software development, and how to design and implement software systems. The programme also covers the use of information systems in organisations, and the management of IT and information systems, and students will gain skills and knowledge in problem analysis, evaluation of technology options, systems development, technology-driven organisational change and technology-based innovation.

- Provides a foundation for continuing on to an MPhil/PhD programme in information systems or technology management.
- Students will have 24-hour access to several laboratories of networked PCs with a range of language compilers, database and other application software. College are connected, via the SuperJANET network, to the computers of other academic institutions in London, elsewhere in the UK and abroad.

Eligibility & Entry Requirement
Academic Eligibility:
- Students must a bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university to get admission to this program.
- Students require a minimum GPA of 3 on a 4.0 scale for the program.
- Students should have a second-class honours degree or equivalent.
- Students with less than the required level of academic qualification may be considered if they have significant relevant experience in IT/management.
Indian Student Eligibility:
Indian students are eligible to apply if they meet one of the following eligibility criteria:
- Students must complete a 4-year undergraduate degree with first class in a relevant field from a recognized institution.
- Students need to submit minimum GRE exam scores for a better chance of admission.
- Students are reviewed on their individual merits and professional qualifications and/or relevant work experience will be taken into consideration positively.
- Along with the minimum eligibility requirements, international students hailing from non-English speaking countries need to prove English proficiency through IELTS/TOEFL/any equivalent test to get admission to this program.

The visa students apply for varies according to the length of students course:
- Courses of more than six months' duration: Student visa
- Courses of less than six months' duration: Standard Visitor visa
International students who require a Student visa should apply for their full-time courses as these qualify for Student visa sponsorship. If students are living in the UK on a Student visa, they will not be eligible to enrol as a student on Birkbeck's part-time courses (with the exception of some modules).
