IGNOU offers a Post Basic B.Sc Nursing program at the UG level. The duration of the program is 3 years and has a seat intake of 650 in IGNOU Regional Centres. Admission to the Post Basic B.Sc Nursing is offered on the basis of scores obtained in the IGNOU OENENT entrance examination followed by counselling. The OPENNET Entrance test is a pen paper-based test conducted by IGNOU. It will consist of 120 multiple choice questions (one mark each) drawn from various subjects taught in GNM. The duration of OPENNET will be two and a half hours.

• The Selection of the candidate will be based on OPENNET entrance examination.

IGNOU Post Basic B.Sc Nursing Eligibility Criteria

Candidates must fulfil educational qualifications for admission to Bachelor of Science in Nursing. There is no minimum or maximum age limit.

Educational Qualification:

Candidate must have passed 10+2 with three years Diploma in General Nursing and Midwifery (GNM) with a minimum of two-year experience in the profession. or

In service Nurse having 10th class (Matriculation) or its equivalent with 3 years Diploma in General Nursing and Midwifery (GNM) with a minimum of 5-year experience in the profession.

Note: Male nurses who have not done midwifery in the GNM program must have a certificate in any of the nursing courses for 6-9 months, prescribed by the Indian Nursing Council (INC) in lieu of midwifery.

Age Limit:

Age limit is not a barrier to admission to the course.

IGNOU Post Basic B.Sc Nursing Assignments

Assignments constitute continuous evaluation. The marks that you secure in the assignments will be counted in your final result. As mentioned earlier, an assignment of a course carries 30% weightage. You are therefore advised to take your assignment seriously. 

Non Submission of Assignment

The TMA for each semester can be downloaded from the Student Zone of the University website. You have to complete the assignment within the due dates specified in the assignment booklet. You will not be allowed to appear for the term-end examination for any course if you do not submit the assignment in time for that course. If you appear in the term-end examination, without submitting the assignments, the result of the term-end examination is liable to be canceled.

IGNOU Post Basic B.Sc Nursing Selection Process

• Selection of the candidates will be done region-wise on the basis of merit in IGNOU OPENENT entrance examination.
• Selected candidates will be called for regional counselling followed by the document verification process.
• The admission will be made region-wise after a verification process, on the basis of merit from the list of eligible candidates in each category.

Candidates must submit self-attested copy of the documents mentioned below during document verification process along with original copies of all the documents:

1. Original admit card
2. Certificate proof of Candidate date of birth
3. 10+2 pass certificate
4. Experience certificate
5. GNM mark sheet
6. NOC
7. Category Certificate
8. Income Certificate (in case of OBC NCL)
9.  2 passport size photograph
10. Other relevant documents

IGNOU Post Basic B.Sc. Nursing Application Procedure

The entrance test application form is available online as well as offline. The procedure for both is given below.

• Student handbook and prospectus can be obtained from the Director (SSC), IGNOU, Maidan Garhi, New Delhi-110068 or from any Regional Centre of IGNOU by sending a sum of INR 1050 through a Demand Draft in favour of IGNOU, payable at New Delhi or Regional Centre Concerned.
• Application forms can also be issued by paying INR 1200 in cash at the respective sales counter. 
• In case the entrance test form is downloaded, a demand draft of INR 1210/- should be sent or submitted along with the form.
• Application form can be downloaded through online mode from university’s official website www.ignou.ac.in and sent along with a DD of INR 1050 in favour of IGNOU payable at New Delhi or Regional Centre Concerned by Registered or Speed Post to Regional Centre Concerned.
