Himachal Pradesh University (HPU) was established in 1970 and in 1971, it established the Directorate of Correspondence Course(s). The Directorate of Correspondence Course(s) was later re-christened as International Centre for Distance Education and Open Learning (ICDEOL). It is a State Govt. University accredited with ‘A’ grade by NAAC.
The University provides 3-year B.A. courses in which the students need to study five subjects along with a few elective subjects. The choice of subjects varies with the stream.
Admissions to the BA program is based on merit in the last qualifying exam.

HPU BA Eligibility Criteria
The following are the criteria fulfilling any one of which will make a candidate eligible for admission to HPU B.A. courses.
- 10+2 examination under 10+2 or an examination equivalent to a Board/University established by law in India with pass in four written subjects (including English) with 33% marks.
- Provided that a student seeking admission to B.A. 1st year with Mathematics as one of the subjects should have either 45% of marks in aggregate or 45 marks in Mathematics at 10+2 level.
- Pre-University examination (two years) after 10 year of schooling of an Indian University / Board recognised by H.P. University with 33% marks.
- Intermediate examination of an Indian University / Board of an examination recognised equivalent thereto (pass in four subjects with 33% marks) including English.
- An examination of a university / Board / College or school in Foreign Country recognised as equivalent to the above purpose by the Vice-Chancellor / Equivalence Committee either of its own or on the recommendations of Association of Indian Universities with 33% marks.
- B.A. / B.Sc. / B.Com. Part-1 of an old three-year degree course of a recognised University /Board/College with 33% marks.
- English as one of the subjects is mandatory at 10+2 level.

HPU BA Admission Guidelines
There is no entrance test or percentage of marks as criterion for admission to any of the courses (listed in this prospectus) through the ICDEOL. All students who have applied to HPU will be taken in.
How to Apply?
Applying to HPU through ICDEOL is quite easy. The step-by-step process of applying to HPU is given below.
- Click on “UG” to access the list of programs.
- Before filling up your application, make sure to read the steps for applying online which appears as a PDF. After you’re done reading, choose the program and click on the program name.
- After clicking on the program name, a pop-up will appear with the terms and conditions. After you’ve read the terms and conditions, you will be redirected to the ‘Personal Information’ page.
- Fill the personal information. Re-check and hit the ‘Submit’ button at the bottom of the page.
- System will generate the Unique Registration number along with the password. Note them down. The same will also be sent to your registered email address. Make sure to note it for all future references.
- After registration (filling up personal information-Receiving of unique Registration number and password), Click on “UG/ PG/ Diploma/ B.Ed. / M.A. Education” on the home page and click on “Click here for Student Login” and login with a unique Registration number along with password and you will get all the earlier submitted information in the personal information page.
- After you have finished checking all your personal information, click on the ‘Proceed to Payment’ button and complete your payment using debit/credit cards, net banking etc.
