The Indian Institute of Space Science and Technology (IIST) offers a competitive admission process through JEE Mains and Advanced scores, with separate counselling. The institute accepts only 140 students across three branches from the top 2500 candidates invited for counselling. IIST is known for its exceptional faculty, all with PhDs, and a favorable faculty-to-student ratio of 1:7 or 1:8. The curriculum focuses on space technology, integrating courses like Space Science and Environmental Engineering.
The institution previously offered full fee reimbursement for students obtaining a GPA of 7.5 or higher, but these scholarships have been discontinued. Currently, M.Tech students with GATE admission receive a UGC stipend of Rs. 12,000. The semester fee stands at approximately Rs. 91,700, covering tuition, hostel, and mess fees. Financial aid includes full tuition waivers for SC/ST students and reductions based on family income. Merit scholarships offer a 50% tuition waiver for students with a CGPA of 9.0 or higher.
IIST guarantees placement at ISRO for students maintaining a CGPA of 7.5, where they can expect an average salary of 10-12 LPA. The placement rate is high, with 95% of students securing jobs, and private companies offering packages between 8 LPA and 20 LPA. Internships at ISRO and international institutions are also available, enhancing career prospects.
