Master of Arts [MA] (Psychology) From LPU, Jalandhar

LPU MA Psychology is offered in a regular mode for 2 years. 

• The foundation courses provide a base for learning the core courses whereas the core courses provide a base for learning the basics of a major discipline/area.
• The specializations and elective courses within the discipline broaden student’s horizons.
• Along with this, tie-ups with industries help the students to experience hands-on training by collaborating on industry projects, internships to engage in real-life situations, and content delivery by industry experts.
• LPU MA Psychology students also get a chance for international exposure through study abroad programs such as semester or year abroad or summer school. 
• Students get to experience a range of events such as MOOCs, Hackathons, Co-curricular competitive events, guest lectures, workshops, educational trips, live projects, community projects, incubation projects, projects with NGOs, Industry certifications, etc.
• The MA Psychology course in LPU is divided into 4 semesters namely: Autumn term and the Spring term. Autumn term is the first or odd semester of an academic year/ session whereas a Spring term is the second or even semester of an academic session. The subjects in both the terms are tabulated below.

LPU MA Psychology Program Structure

• Specialization Elective Courses: It includes Applied Psychology: Forensic Psychology, Neuropsychology, and Sports Psychology; Organizational Psychology: Leadership and Organizational Change, Managing Organizational Culture, and Processes and Organizational Industrial Psychology; Positive Psychology: Psychological Theories of Enhancing Performance, Psychology and Personal Growth, and Psychology of Peace.
• Department Elective Courses: These courses are within the discipline to provide more depth to an LPU MA Psychology student’s core competencies.
  • Teaching and Research Aptitude-I: It encourages students to develop skills in analytical acumen.
  • Teaching and Research Aptitude-II: It includes general aptitude and research along with teaching as well as their awareness.
  • Term Paper I: It focuses on substantial writing on a given topic.
  • Term Paper II:It also focuses on writing substantially on a given relevant topic.
• Advanced Knowledge: It demonstrates the major theoretical perspectives and principles and provides advanced knowledge in various fields of Psychology.
• Behavior Understanding: It focuses on creating a better perspective of intrapersonal issues and interpersonal behavior.
• Research: The course is structured in a way that it uses research methods and tools for researching psychological issues and problems.
• Critical Thinking: It encourages students to develop critical and creative thinking skills, skeptical inquiry, and a scientific approach to mitigate problems about different psychological issues.
• Ethical Considerations: Students value empirical evidence, recognize their role and responsibility as a member of society, and therefore act ethically.
• Case Presentation: Students learn to effectively write and present case histories of people with psychological issues.
• Counseling Skills: Students are provided with the opportunity to display counseling skills aimed at behavior modification.
• Psychological Assessment: Different assessment tools are applied by students to assess various aspects of behavior such as personality, intelligence, and other mental abilities.
