I got admission (PGDM) opportunities from IIM Rohtak and IIM Udaipur! Should one go or sit for CAT again this year? Any suggestions?

Sitting for CAT again is honestly not a very easy decision. So I will suggest you go for IIM Rohtak itself. This decision will be beneficial under the following circumstances

If your past academic performance is not really good. This is because the older IIMs lay emphasis on past academics too much which in reality cannot be changed. So why risk a year when the chances are nearly zero?
If you already have 2 or more years of experience, it’s better you don’t forgo the opportunity.
If you are interested in domains like Finance or Marketing, it’s better to join now. This is because working too much in the IT field limits your chances of getting into Finance and Marketing.

So based on these points you can come up with a decision that’s best for you. Just remember that despite being new, IIM Rohtak belongs to the IIM family which in itself is a brand.

Is an FPM from a newer IIM, say Udaipur, worth it or should I try again next year?

Some world-class faculties from IIM Ahmedabad and IIM Calcutta visit the campus of IIM Udaipur to spread their knowledge and sophistication to FPM students. This is done through coaching programs and workshops where you can identify your inclinations and talents.

The faculty of the FPM department is dynamic and capable of a concerted arrangement required to produce research through its students and themselves.

Research is something that requires your efforts at a personal level. So joining a 2-year Research program will be beneficial to you only. You can also switch to better research programs or even redo your Ph.D.

To initiate a career in research, one needs serious personal commitment, else there are many instances wherein people have failed to make a career in research. The newer IIMs offer little scope in this aspect and Udaipur is an exception. So don’t lose this opportunity and go for it without much thought.

Being a non-engineer OBC girl candidate, at what percentile can I expect a call from IIM Udaipur

Your gender and category play a very insignificant role in determining your chances of getting admission. As a girl you will be given 5 marks extra owing to gender diversity. And your Category will require you percentile lesser than the general category. But these factors are not the major parameters for selecting candidates. The major criterias include your past academic records and work experience. The weightages allotted to these components can be checked from the official website.

Considering your profile here is my opinion regarding the percentile required to guarantee your admission.

90+ — 100% chances
85–90 - Almost 100% chances
80–85 - May or may not get a call though chances for getting a call are more
70–80 - Chances of getting a call are relatively low

Please note that this is guaranteed only if you clear category specific cut-offs.

I got 90% in 10, 80% in 12 and 62% in UG. Will I get admission in IIM Udaipur?

Usually, a 95+ score in CAT combined with excellent performance in GD-PI or WAT increases your chances of admission to IIM Udaipur. The new IIMs unlike old IIMs don’t focus much on academics so the entire focus is given to CAT scores.

Other factors that are taken into consideration are diversity, gender, and caste. Basically, a high CAT score guarantees admission to IIM Udaipur.
