Bharathiar University Admission 2024: UG, PG, PhD, Courses, Eligibility, Application Process, Dates

The University offers a number of PG programmes including MA, M.Sc, M.Com etc. in multiple disciplines along with several diploma programmes such as PG Diploma in Environmental Education, Cheminformatics etc. In addition to it, the university also offers B.P.Ed and M.P.Ed programme along with MBA and MCA (Regular and Lateral Entry). Selection of candidates will be done on the basis of performance in an entrance test (60 marks) and in the qualifying examination (40 marks) upto V Semester / II year. The Entrance Test will be conducted in the university campus only.

Eligibility Criteria:

Candidates must fulfill the following criteria to be deemed eligible for admission to most of the PG courses offered by Bharathiar university:

• Candidate should have passed with minimum 55% aggregate in marks at the undergraduate level from any recognized university in the country. The course must have been in a related field, and the viability of an acquired degree in terms of its applicability to the subject of the Master’s degree is at the discretion of the University.
• A relaxation may be given to reserved categories as per the regulations of the Government.
• For the M.Ed. degree, a B.Ed. degree is preferable, though BA with education related fields may be accepted.
• In case of Biochemistry, a minimum of 60% aggregate is required at the undergraduate level to apply.
• For M.Sc. programmes, Science stream with related subjects must have been a part of the curriculum at the undergraduate level.
• For courses in Economics or Econometrics, the following subjects are accepted: Economics, Econometrics, Mathematical Statistics, Business Economics, Commerce. Other related subjects may be considered at the discretion of the University.

Selection Process:

 The selection process varies depending on the course applied for. It may a direct one, where candidates either are offered the seats on a first come first serve basis depending on merit and availability, or based on the entrance examination conducted by the University. Certain courses under the university may have interviews as part of the process before finalizing the list of selected candidates. The courses which require entrance examination and those that allow direct admission are as follows:

In addition to the various PG courses mentioned above, the university also offers MBA (Master of Business Administration) and MCA (Master of Computer Application) programmes to the students. The application process remains the same for MBA, MCA programmes as for the other PG courses. In order to be eligible for admission to MBA, MCA programmes, the candidates should have appeared for TANCET Examination and possess valid TANCET scores.

Candidates must fulfill the following criteria to be considered eligible for admission to these courses.

• For MBA, candidates must possess an undergraduate degree from a recognized university along with the educational qualifications following the 10+2+3 format.
• For MCA, candidate is required to pass in any recognized Bachelors degree of minimum 3 years duration (10+2+3 / 4 years pattern) in any discipline with core Mathematics or Business Mathematics at +2 level or A pass in any recognized Bachelors degree with 10+3 years Diploma +3 years pattern with Mathematics at Diploma level or Mathematics or Statistics as one of the subjects at the degree level or Pass in any recognized Bachelors degree of minimum 3 years duration (10+2+3 pattern) in any discipline with Mathematics or Statistics as any one of the subjects
• For MCA (Lateral Entry) admissions, candidate must have passed Bachelors Degree of minimum 3 years duration in B.C.A.,B.Sc. (Computer Science / Computer Technology / Information Technology ) or Equivalent with Mathematics as course at Higher Secondary Level or at Graduate level

Applications are accepted only if submitted within 10 days of declaration of results of TANCET. Selection of candidates is done on a direct basis, with the performance in the qualifying degree as well as the TANCET score being taken into consideration. Admission to MBA and MCA courses is done through Centralized counseling conducted by Government College of Technology, Coimbatore.

The University offers M.Phil. and Ph.D. courses in almost all the university departments with more than 37 specializations being offered.  The general eligibility for admission to the research programs is a post-graduate degree in a related discipline. There are generally two sessions of applications accepted, in November and May, with the process being the same as the other courses offered by the university. The University conducts a Common Entrance Test for admission to the research programs, followed by a personal interview. 

Eligibility Criteria:

Candidates must fulfill the following criteria to be deemed eligible for admission to this university.

• Candidate should have passed with minimum 55% aggregate in a Master’s level degree from any recognized university in the country. The course must have been in the subject applied for, or in a related field as acceptable at the discretion of the university.
• A 5% relaxation may be given to reserved categories as per the regulations of the Government, i.e. 50% minimum requirement,
• At the discretion of the University Board, certain candidates may be exempted from the entrance examination, by virtue of them clearing prominent examinations such as NET or the equivalent.

Selection Process:

The selection process is based mainly on the performance in the entrance examination conducted by the University.

• The entrance test consists of questions covering general areas, as well as subject specific and research oriented questions.
• Candidates who obtain satisfactory marks in this entrance test may also have to participate in a personal interview.
• The final merit list is based on a cumulative grading of performance in the entrance examination, personal interview, and the qualifying degree scores (Master’s level).

Exemption from the written test:

• M.Phil. degree holders need not appear for common entrance test, however they will be required to appear for the interview.
• UGC/ CSIR-JRF NET/ SLET/ GATE/ Teacher fellowship holders / Scientist working in DRDO / faculty of Air Force Administrative College/foreign candidates need not appear for entrance test. Such candidates shall be directly admitted to the doctoral program through interview.

Alongside its full-time regular courses, the University also offers multiple distance education programmes, including the courses stated below.

Eligibility Criteria:

 The minimum required eligibility is as stated below.

• For undergraduate courses, a pass at the 10+2 level from CBSE / ISC / State Board or the recognized equivalent is a must, with Science stream being required for pure science subjects. Alternatively, a polytechnic degree awarded by the State Board of Technical Education under the Government of Tamil Nadu will also be accepted.
• For postgraduate courses, an undergraduate degree from a recognized university in a related field must be obtained.
• For PG Diploma courses, a pass at the degree level from a recognized university is required.

Selection Process:

Selection is done on a direct, merit oriented basis, with the performance in the qualifying degree / examination being taken into consideration.
