Sidho Kanho Birsha University Admission 2024: Courses, Fee, Eligibility

Sidho Kanho Birsha University offers a number of courses that can be taken up after the completion of UG programme. It includes B.Ed., and a number of other Masters programmes, in the following streams:

Candidates interested in applying must do so within the given time frame, as seen on the official Sidho Kanho Birsha University website. Only online applications are released, and candidates are given a window of around 2 weeks to submit their application forms.

Eligibility Criteria:

Candidates will be deemed eligible for admission only if the following criteria have been met.

• For B.Ed., a minimum 50% aggregate at the undergraduate level from a recognized university in any stream, with a 5% relaxation for reserved categories.
  OR
• A Master’s degree in Mathematics, Social Science, Science or Language, or Engineering degree with Science and Mathematics with 55% aggregate marks.
• Candidates must be less than 37 years of age by the end of June of the year applying to be eligible for B.Ed.
• A pass in a three years Honours programme at the undergraduate level is required for Master’s programmes. Specific details are as given below.
   

Selection Process

The selection process consists of in-depth analysis of marks obtained at the UG level, and the merit list is prepared. An entrance examination may be conducted for certain PG courses based on the number of applicants, seats available, and discretion of the university. Selected students will be called for the counselling process after publication of merit list.

After the release of the merit list, candidates must provide all original documents for verification at the time of admission counseling, and will only be given the final offer of admission thereafter. Caste certificate is necessary for reserved candidates. Payment of fees thereafter is required to complete the admission process.

Reservation is in accordance with the rules of the Government of West Bengal. In general, preference is given to Home University students, who make up around 60% of the intake.

The University also offers Research programmes in various subjects. Application forms are released following an official notification from the University, and candidates are given a short period of time thereafter to apply if interested. The details of the admission to this course are as follows.

Eligibility Criteria

Candidates must have fulfilled the following conditions to be considered eligible for admission.

• A pass at the Master’s level in the relevant subject from a recognized university, with a 55% aggregate. A 5% relaxation may be given to those from SC / ST / OBC / Physically Challenged categories.
• Foreign candidates must produce clearance from the Government to be considered for admission.
• Those who have cleared NET / SET / GATE or the equivalent examination are exempted from the entrance examination.

Selection Process

The selection process to the Ph.D. programme consists of an entrance examination followed by a personal interview.

• Those who have cleared NET / GATE / SET or the equivalent are granted exemption from the entrance examination, and need only to appear for the viva voce interview process.
• Those who have cleared M.Phil. / M.Tech. / M.E. / M.D. / M.Pharm. or the equivalent, admission through which was given through an entrance examination, are exempted from the entrance test as well.
• The entrance test will be conducted on a date stipulated by the university depending on the number of applicants and availability of seats.
• The examination will be subject specific, with questions relevant to the matter studied in the Master’s degree.
• The viva voce will include questioning on the basis of research oriented discussions, including the abstract that may have been required at the time of admission.

A merit list is released thereafter on the basis of the performance in the entrance examination as well as the viva voce / interview. Performance at the Master’s level or other qualifying degree may be considered when selecting candidates.

Those who have been selected as per the merit list are required to appear for admission counseling, where all relevant documents are verified. This includes marks cards of all qualifying examinations and degrees, and caste certificate if applying under reserved category. The offer of admission will be given thereafter, and payment of the stipulated fee amount is required to confirm admission.
