Criminal Justice Program University of Central Florida

R
6.3 /10

It was in-state tuition and I'm poor. We couldn't afford for me to go to my top choices, as they were all outside of the state of Florida. But it worked out because the programs this school offers are really good.

Course Curriculum :

I believe the curriculum is pretty good. The required courses all seem decent, though I haven't taken many of the courses as I'm on a first-semester sophomore. Some of the classes required for my major seem unnecessary, but I suppose it helps someone.

Exams :

To fulfill university requirements, I took both the SAT and the ACT. I did better on the ACT, even doing it a second time and getting a better score. I can't remember my SAT score, but on the ACT I received a 31.

Placement :

I have no idea. I haven't had a job here, nor have I really looked for one.

Internship :

I don't know if the college itself has an internship program, but they give credit for internships. I haven't done one as I'm not eligible for many of them, or for credit (you have to finish the major courses to receive credit).

Events :

I'm not too familiar with the celebrations at the college, to be honest. I know they have Spirit Splash every fall semester, where students gather around and the mascot lets them all go at once into our Reflection Pond. It's the only time you're allowed to go into the pond, and you can try to get a themed rubber duck. It's hard to participate, though, as there are so many people.

Fees :

You have tuition, housing (which you may or may not get), textbooks, meal plans (which are optional), and miscellaneous charges. The miscellaneous charges include transportation costs, for supporting the shuttle system at the school.

Scholarship :

I got no scholarships because I started school in the spring, and they save absolutely no funds for spring students. It's ridiculous. I did get government loans and Grant's though, and after my first semester, I received a grant from the school for being a full-time student.

Examination Structure :

I don't really understand this question. Usually, though, you have quizzes and then a midterm and final exam. It depends on the class, though, really. Some of my classes have only quizzes, some have all of them, and some have none at all. I think it depends upon the course, it's material and the professor.

Faculty :

The faculty is all very experienced. Most, if not all, of the faculty, have had real-world experience in their field. In the criminal justice department, the professors and deans have all worked, or are still working, in law enforcement in some capacity.

Hostel :

On-campus housing is, of course, way cheaper and easier. It's more convenient for getting to classes and the dining halls. Off-campus housing is far too expensive, but they don't have enough dorms for everyone so you're pretty much guaranteed to get stuck with a year-long lease. And the apartment complexes completely take advantage of that and the students by raising their prices to absurd amounts. It's really not worth it, and I personally can't afford school if I can't get a dorm next year.
