Leah Hutchinson Review at University Of Central Florida [UCF], Orlando | Collegedunia

Large Class Sizes, Beautiful Campus

It wasn't too far from home but far enough and was not nearly expensive as a private school. The application fee was not bad and it was my top choice school so I was committed to getting in. I applied to five colleges and got into four. I was a straight-A student in high school but my SAT score was 1160.

Course Curriculum :

The high school course curriculum is very structured and set in how it should be done. However, college courses are taught differently by different instructors. If you know what kind, of course, you are signing up for, you should be fine. There does need to be a guideline of what needs to be taught but it can be interactive as well as educational.

Exams :

I came into college with nine dual enrollment, one Advanced Placement course, and an SAT score of 1160. I choose the Nursing program because I want a stable career and to help people and UCF offers one of the best programs in the country. I still have to take the TEAS test at the end of my freshman year. I was very involved in high school and wanted to be involved in college as well.

Placement :

Career Services offers many programs to help students go over their interview and resumes before actually interviewing in the real world. We have several job fairs and several students are hired through that. I know ScribeAmerica is always on campus looking to hire students.

Internship :

They do offer internships and on-campus jobs, however, it is nearly impossible to get one unless you are a work-study student. I received an interview for a position at the student union, however, they ended up accepting a work-study student instead.

Events :

Spirit Splash is a major tradition that happens each year where students run into the reflecting pond and try to catch a rubber duck that is always limited edition. It is a goal of mine to get a duck by the time I graduate.

Fees :

Tuition is $212.28 per credit hour taken. I am not sure if there are any scholarships available for international applicants but I accepted a loan through the school over the summer. The loan was for six credit hours (two classes) and I also used it for my housing. I had a meal plan but was able to pay for that out of pocket.

Scholarship :

I have used loans and it was not great. They offered me a subsidized loan but then changed the amount and did not tell me. So I last minute has to except a subsidized loan and still have to pay it off.

Examination Structure :

Exam structure varies by class. Some of my classes use scantrons and make us show our ID when turning it in. Another one of my classes has online exams in the class where we have to present our ID as well. My third class has all the online exams that we can take at our dorm and we have a week to complete. And my last class doesn't have any exams, but projects and papers.

Faculty :

The prerequisite courses for nursing and my GEP are in very large lecture halls with little student-professor interaction. If you want to speak to your professor, you have to seek them out. However, most of them are nice and highly educated. One of my professors I never see and the TA's teach the course.

Hostel :

I live on campus and I like it because it is really convenient and I have many resources on campus. Plus, commuters have the struggle of finding parking before classes. I like my Resident Assistant and plan on being one next year.
