Faculty members of the Department of Music are active regionally, nationally and internationally as solo and collaborative performers, conductors, recording artists, scholars, composers, educators, lecturers, adjudicators and mentors. Our faculty work closely with students to help them build a versatile set of skills that will ensure success in their chosen area of the profession.The Department of Music provides a comprehensive classroom curriculum in music theory, history and literature; applied studio instruction in piano, guitar, brass, woodwind, percussion, string and vocal areas; and performance experiences in a wide variety of large and small ensemble settings.
The Department's Commercial Music Program offers practical music industry training through its Commercial Music Composition, Music Technology and Music Business concentrations. FAU’s Hoot/Wisdom Records L.L.C. label affords students hands-on experience in its state-of-the-art studios.Each student in the MM program must meet the College’s foreign language requirement of two semesters (8 credits) of undergraduate study in the same foreign language OR complete a graduate-level Reading for Research course (FRE/GER/SPN) OR demonstrate proficiency. Any course work taken to fulfill the requirement does not count toward the Master of Music degree.
Eligibility & Entry Requirement
Academic Requirements:
- Applicant must have a bachelors degree in music
- Submit official transcripts of all previous educational institution attended
- Applicants must have minimum 3.0 GPA for admission consideration
- Official transcripts must be evaluated by a NACES accredited agency
- Submit a writing sample or portfolio
- Students have to appear in an audition
- Applicants have to appear in an interview
English Language Requirements:
- TOEFL: minimum 61 in iBT; 550 in PBT
- IELTS: minimum score of 6.0
- Duolingo: minimum score of 90
