Eligibility & Entry Requirement
Academic Eligibility:
- Applicants must have the equivalent of a United States bachelor's degree to be eligible to apply with a GPA of 3.0 on a 4.0 scale.
Indian Students Eligibility:
- Applicants must have a 4-year bachelor’s degree in a relevant field from a recognized institution with a GPA of 3.0 on a 4.0 scale.
Along with the minimum eligibility requirements, international students from non-English speaking countries must prove English proficiency through IELTS/TOEFL/any equivalent test.

VISA & Work Study
Work Study
- International students do not qualify for work-study on-campus or off-campus because of Federal Work-Study regulations. However, international students can work through the school's Institutional Student Employment (Non-Work Study) program. International students are not allowed to work for more than 20 hours a week while classes are in session or 40 hours when classes are not in session. Students are to sign up for job listings through the 'handshake' website at www.umb.joinhandshake.com using their University of Massachusetts Boston email username. When searching for job vacancies, international students should specify by selecting the 'on-campus non-work study' icon in the filter option.
- Students are to apply for a Social Security Number after they've been given employment at the Student Employment Services office on the 4th Floor of the Campus Center. International graduate students, however, who have enrolled for at least nine credits per semester may apply for an assistantship with their Graduate School department where they may be granted benefits such as a stipend, Fee Waiver of tuition credit in form of incentive or payment. However, the number of graduate assistantships is limited based on the budget.
