Our classes are purposely small; most have no more than 40 students. You?ll learn from some of the top professors in the field ? professors who will know you by name. Student organizations will give you a chance to get to know your peers and be actively involved in co-curricular activities.
As a student in our program, you'll take and courses and reflecting the diversity of subject areas prominent in the field, including:
- Social psychology
- Criminology
- Social inequality (race, class, gender)
- Terrorism
- Social change
- Health and medical sociology
- Urban sociology
- Social theory
- Research methods
You may earn either your and B.A. or B.S. degree in sociology. We also offer an Accelerated law degree with the NIU College of Law, a minor in sociology and a certificate in criminology.
Eligibility & Entry Requirement
Academic Requirements:
- Applicant must have graduated their high school diploma
- Applicants must have passing grades equivalent to a US C+ average on all transcripts and/or exam scores
- Submit official transcripts of all secondary school attested in orginial language along with English translation
- Submit English Language Proficiency test scores
English Language Requirements:
- TOEFL: minimum 71 in iBT; minimum 527 in PBT
- IELTS: minimum 6.0 score required
- PTE: minimum score of 48
