Programs, Campus and Accommodation

Campus

The institute was established in the year 1842 but the current main campus buildings were constructed in 1892 and 1896. Cumberland University’s 44-acre campus is on the smaller side but houses multiple buildings.

The institute has over 30 plus buildings including academic buildings, residence halls, administrative and sports facilities. Over 21% of the total student enrollment lived on campus for the academic year.

There are over 13 student services offices on campus each servicing a range of student issues ranging from counselling, residence issues, IT support etc. 

For students to learn and network with fellow students, there are more than 60 plus organisations including Greek organisations and honors societies. Some unique clubs are Criminal Justice Club, Student Government Association, Kindness Club, Creative Writing Club etc.

Housing facilities/Residence

  • Residential facilities include 5 residence halls and Greek housing at Cumberland University.
  • The Howell E. Jackson Hall, Horace H Lurton Hall and the South Hall are meant for students in the second year and above.
  • For female freshmen students the residence hall is the Justin Potter Hall and for the male counterparts is the Edward Potter Hall.
  • Each room comes furnished with basic furnishings and students can bring their own too.
  • It offers three meal plans for their residents. Each plan allows for a certain number of meals per week.

Scholarships/Financial Aid

The institute offers financial aid as grants, awards and  scholarships for international students to study in the USA. Merit-based scholarships are awarded by the individual college departments.   • The Monty and Pace Pope Scholarship for History and International Students awards for students enrolled in History major. The scholarship award money is raised from an annual event called Ghosts and Goblets. Eligible students are selected by the office of financial aid and selected students must submit an essay.
  • The Adonai Foundation Inc. Endowed Scholarship awards international students at UG or PG level who are receiving benefits from Ernest L. Stockton Jr. Scholarship or who have financial need. 
  • The work-study programme allows international students to work on-campus jobs. Pay is as per the state minimum wage rate and to be eligible a minimum GPA of 2.0 must be maintained. The university provides the application form for the work-study program online.
