The research effort is supported by state-of-the-art facilities that incorporate advanced computational clusters and chemical instrumentation, which are maintained by experienced professionals. Graduate students gain, during their research, extensive hands-on experience with department instrumentation. Our research facilities encompass Nuclear Magnetic Resonance spectrometers, both solution and solid-state, a single crystal X-ray diffractometer, various mass spectrometers, and an Electron Paramagnetic Resonance spectrometer, among others.
The department maintains an outstanding seminar program with invited speakers of international stature, which enables our students to interact with the outside speakers. Among the highlights of this program are the annual R.C. Fuson Lectureship, the biennial Sierra Nevada ACS Distinguished Chemist Lectureship, the biennial Distinguished Physical Chemist Lectureship, and the annual Chemistry Graduate Student Association Lectureship, all of which have featured Nobel Laureates.
