The M.A. in Screenwriting program, housed in APU?s Department of Cinematic Arts, is offered in a low-residency program format that supports working professionals. The program is the only graduate screenwriting degree offered among Council for Christian Colleges & Universities (CCCU) on the West Coast.

Eligibility & Entry Requirement

Academic Requirements:

  • Applicant must have completed a bachleors degree from an accredited university
  • Submit official transcripts of all previous education completed with minimum GPA of 3.0
  • Official transcripts must be evaluated by a transcripts evaluation agency
  • Submit two letters of recommendation from employers/ professors/ supervisors who have current knowledge about applicants academic ability and potential
  • Submit a current resume or statement of experience
  • Submit a personal statement in 500 words describing why you want to become a writer 
  • Submit a writing sample by creating a scene between two people and of a short story/ teleplay/feature length/one-act play
  • Submit English Language Proficiency test scores

English Language Requirements:

  • TOEFL: minimum 90 in ibT; 
  • IELTS: minimum 7.0
