Required Exams for Admission
I wanted to stay within British Columbia and felt that UBC was one of the best schools in the province for my desired program. The campus is also beautiful and surrounded by the city, mountains, beaches, and forests.
Course Curriculum
The course curriculum is quite difficult compared to that of my friends at other schools such as SFU and UVIC. Although challenging, it is manageable and there are good resources available to students such as peer tutoring.
Faculty
It is really good and has many opportunities for research and co-op. It is also very broad, so there is a lot of diversity even within the faculty. Specialization is also chosen after the first year.
Accommodation
Fees
The fees for courses with lab components are quite expensive around $250. There are additional lab charges for materials such as lab coats and goggles which ends up being around an additional $30.
Scholarship
No, I haven't applied for scholarships.
Examination Structure
Most courses have 1-2 mid-terms and a final. The midterms are usually an hour-long each, and can be a mix of multiple-choice and written questions; depending on the course. Finals are typically 2-3 hours.
