- The Department of Biological Sciences offers programs leading to the degrees of Master of Science and Doctor of Philosophy.
- It strives to develop scholars familiar with the literature in their field, capable of identifying new problems and new directions of endeavour in their field, and competent with the methods of data collection and analysis essential to do research.
- Students will fulfill these objectives through several forums: a supervised research program, coursework, participation in seminar programs, and defending their dissertation.
- There are six areas of specialization within the Department:
- Ecology
- Microbiology and Biotechnology
- Molecular Biology and Genetics
- Plant Biology
- Physiology, Development and Cell Biology

Eligibility & Entry Requirement
Academic Eligibility:
- Students must have a 4-year undergraduate degree or an equivalent qualification and stand from a recognized institution.
- A grade point average (GPA) required is:
- 3.3 on a 4-point scale,
- 7.0 on a 9-point scale,
- B+ on a letter-based scale or
- 78/100 on a percentage-based scale
- If English is not the student's first language then they must provide proof of English competency.
Indian Student Eligibility:
- Students require an undergraduate degree from a recognized institution with 60% First Class Standing/Division.
- Students may also hold a bachelor's degree of 4 years.
Along with the minimum eligibility requirements, international students hailing from non-English speaking countries need to prove English proficiency through IELTS/TOEFL/any equivalent test.
