The course in the bachelor’s degree in biology is intended to provide students with the necessary specialist knowledge, skills, and methods for a broad biological and professional education in such a way that they are qualified for scientific work, for the critical classification of scientific findings and for practical work in laboratories and in the field.

Tuition Fees
There are no tuition fees at the University of Duisburg-Essen. All students are, however, subject to a student body and social contribution fee per semester.
The social and student body contribution for the summer and winter semesters 2021 amounts to a total of $774.86.
The amount is made up as follows:
- Mobility contribution (ticket): $506.82, of which $367.88 for the VRR semester ticket and $138.94 for the NRW ticket
- Social contribution for the Studierendenwerk: $229.96
- Student body fee: $38.08.
The social and student body contribution is not to be paid before enrollment! Students will be informed about the payment modalities upon registration.
Eligibility & Entry Requirement
Academic Eligibility:
- General University Entrance Qualification
- subject-related higher education entrance qualification (not the technical college entrance qualification!) or
- a certificate of education recognized as equivalent
- Access to the study of biology for prospective students without a university entrance qualification is regulated by the ordinance on university entrance for those qualified in vocational training of March 8, 2010.
Indian Eligibility:
Indians students are eligible to apply if they meet the following requirements:
- Educational residents (people who have obtained their higher education entrance qualification in Germany or at a German school abroad) do not require any special proof of German language skills.
- Citizens of a country outside the EU with a foreign university entrance qualification must pass the "German language test for university entrance" (DSH 2 level) or the TestDaF (TDN 4) before starting their studies.
- Applicants whose mother tongue is not English must prove English language skills in accordance with the completed level A2 of the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages ??(GER) before starting their studies. This is possible by proving English as a high school diploma (7 points GK or LK) or by having studied English at a secondary school for at least four years or by taking an English language test.
International students hailing from non-English speaking countries can prove English proficiency through IELTS/TOEFL/any equivalent test to get admission to this program.
