Bachelor of Science [B.S] (Energy Science)
Field of Study:
The Energy Science course provides an interdisciplinary understanding of the current state of research on energy conversion and storage as well as a general overview of the associated technologies and their sustainability. In order to anchor this knowledge, the students acquire extensive knowledge in physics and chemistry. The graduates should also have experienced the international dimension of the energy issue in order to be able to make responsible decisions in their professional life.
The course offers a wide range of basic training and addresses the following topics:
- Scientific fundamentals for the provision of usable energy: fossil fuels, nuclear energy, solar energy, wind energy, regenerative energy technology, residual heat, energy-relevant materials
- Energy management: energy efficiency, energy transport, energy storage, sustainability
- Energy and society: environmental compatibility, economic efficiency, social acceptance

Tuition Fees
There are no tuition fees at the University of Duisburg-Essen. All students are, however, subject to a student body and social contribution fee per semester.
The social and student body contribution for the winter semester 2021 amounts to a total of $387.43. However, the social and student body contribution for the summer and winter semesters of 2021 amounts to a total of $774.86 per year.
The amount is made up as follows:
- Mobility contribution (ticket): $253.41, of which $183.94 for the VRR semester ticket and $69.47for the NRW ticket
- Social contribution for the Studierendenwerk: $114.98
- Student body fee: $19.04.
The social and student body contribution is not to be paid before enrollment! Students will be informed about the payment modalities upon registration.
Eligibility & Entry Requirement
Academic Eligibility:
- Admission is subject to the general higher education entrance qualification.
- In the first and second years of study, the course is in German. In the third and fourth years of study, the technical language is English. Good English skills are therefore essential.
Indian Eligibility:
Indian students are eligible to apply if they meet the following language proficiency criteria:
- German: at least level B1 according to the CEFR (Common European Framework of References for Languages)
- English: at least level B1 according to the CEFR
Along with the minimum eligibility requirements, international students hailing from non-English speaking countries need to prove English proficiency through IELTS/TOEFL/any equivalent certificate to get admission to this program.
