Major Dr. V.A. Narayana is the Principal of CMR College of Engineering & Technology. He did his Bachelors in Mechanical Engineering, Masters Degree in Computer Science and Engineering and Ph.D. in Computer Science and Engineering. He has over 26 years of experience out of which he has served for 11 years in the Indian Army and 15+ years in research and teaching experience. He has contributed more than 26 research papers in various Scopus Indexed and IEEE Journals. His areas of interest include Data Mining, Web Mining and Database Management Systems, etc. He has provided guidance for more than 22 M.Tech students for their projects. He has also delivered many ‘invited talks’ and ‘Guest Lectures’ at National and International levels and has authored 4 books.

With a keen interest to promote and develop research, he has organized many International and National Conferences. He has received many awards and honors for his service which include “Sarvotham Achara Puraskar”, “Organizational Excellence in Technical Education”, “Best Educationist“, “Dewang Mehta Award”, “Best Faculty Award”, “Best HOD Award” etc. He has been instrumental in executing more than 25 sponsored research and consultancy projects funded by various funding agencies like DST, AICTE and other renewed agencies.

What are your roles and responsibilities?

“To improves existing facilities for the student's betterment”

Being principal, my basic accountability is to create a positive learning environment and make a difference in student lives, seeking challenging assignments in implementing new systems and improving existing education processes by leveraging vast experience in Education Sector. I use my past experiences to demonstrate expertise in planning, organizing, coordinating and monitoring all types of academic activities for the overall personality development of students.

What are the key factors that keep you connected with the education sector?

“Education is the best way to develop and maximize our country's rich talents”

I strongly believe that “providing universal access to quality education is the key to India’s continued ascent, and leadership on the global stage in terms of economic growth, social justice and equality, scientific advancement, national integration, and cultural preservation”. Only the teaching profession is one that provides an opportunity to bring these transformational changes to the young champs of our country. This is what keeps me associated with the education field.

How does the curriculum of your college ensure the best practices of the industry?

“Curricula implement best education, training and research facilities”

CMRCET has implemented and deepened numerous cutting-edge institutional and academic reforms and has received several accolades and recognitions from top-notch high-profile forums. Ministry of Science and Technology, Government of India has recognized the CMRCET as Scientific and Industrial Research Organization (SIRO). To bridge the gap between industry and academia, we have established Industry Institute Interaction Cell (IIIC). The Training and career guidance cell ensure the culmination of the holistic development of students by placing them in companies of repute.

How do you prepare your students for future challenges?

“Along with technical knowledge, we impart social values in them”

We believe that the purpose of education is to make each learner recognize their identity, understand the purpose in life through their connection and contribution to society, the environment and to their fellow human beings. CMRCET sensitizes the students and equips them with an understanding of self and society and prepares them with a larger view of life and inculcates a sense of social responsibility through relevant courses under different categories and enriches the learning experience.

What are the admissions statistics of your college?

“We enroll more than 90% students every year on an average basis”

As far as the admission graph is concerned, during the last academic year, we have got 96% of students admitted. Definitely, this graph has increased and we got around 98% of admitted students due to the emerging courses which we introduced in this current academic year.

What extracurricular activities are organized in college to enhance the skills of students?

“We offer social events, sports and cultural activities to boost their skills”

Our college has two NSS units and an NCC contingent that renders social and community services to the college. In addition to the blood donation camps, environmental awareness programs, the college has adopted certain villages. As part of EPICS, the students visit the nearby villages and sort out certain problems by giving technologically based solutions. The accomplished projects are deployed in the nearby villages, where it is required and the products developed are distributed to the needy. The students also excel in Sports and Cultural activities outside the Institution and have outstanding performances in 106 events. The Institute has a separate sports Committee and cultural committee and has organized 92 programs.

“Highest package offered is 44 Lakhs and Average Package is 5.7 LPA”

1050+ outgoing students of the 2022 graduating batch from our college have already been placed in organizations such as Capgemini, Infosys, Wipro, TCS, Amazon, Cognizant, IBM, Syntel, Mentor Graphics, Reliance, L&T InfoTech, etc. for the last 5 years. 26 students secured packages of above 10 LPA, 145 students have secured packages of above 7.5 -10 LPA, 159 students have secured packages of above 6-7.5 LPA, 260 students have secured packages of above 4.5-6 LPA, 430 students have secured packages of above 3.5 to 4.5 LPA.
