Dr. Jagruti K. Save is currently working as the Professor and Head of the Department of Artificial Intelligence and Data science engineering at Fr. Conceicao Rodrigues College of Engineering, Bandra, Mumbai. She has 20+Years of teaching experience to her credit. Her areas of expertise are Image Processing, Neural Networks, Data Mining, and Computer Vision. With a Ph.D. (Technology), she has guided more than 50 projects at the graduate/post-graduate level. She has published more than 25 papers in National /International Conferences and journals.

As a HOD, what are your roles and responsibilities towards the students?

“To provide strong academic backing to my students to excel in AI-DS domain”

At Fr. CRCE, we are offering a new engineering branch of Artificial Intelligence and Data science from this year onwards. In addition to being a strong supporter of the department, my responsibilities include but are not limited to: encouraging and supporting innovative teaching, research, & consultancy. I wish to inculcate my students with a strong foundation in math, statistics, and computer science and help them to pursue a career in the most high-demand industry of the 21st century.

How do you tend to establish healthy relations with the students and fellow faculty? 

“Encouragement & a broad platform for open communication to facilitate the exchange of innovative ideas”

In my opinion, transparent and timely communication is the key factor in building a strong relationship between students and faculty. Today the main objective of teaching is not just the delivery of lectures but also developing innovative thinking, analysis, design, implementation, and testing skills among the students. To establish a good relationship with fellow faculty, I simply treat everyone, from the most junior to most senior, with respect. 

How do you try to bring in a practical approach towards subjects & make it industry-oriented?

“Implementation of the classroom concepts to enable analytical problem-solving projects”

Our faculty always focus on practical teaching methods. Through interactive discussion among teachers and students, different innovative solutions can be found for simple and complex applications. Besides the lab work for that subject, students can work on mini projects based on these applications. Thus they gain additional skills like communication, teamwork, and leadership which will definitely help them in their job.

What are the best practices offered by the department for the student’s skill development?

We are proud to state that at our campus, many faculty are pursuing PhD. Every faculty upgrades their knowledge by taking part in a faculty development program, short term training program, seminars and workshops on emerging technology organized by our college or by different institutes. Our faculty also gets a research grant from Mumbai University to implement their innovative project ideas.
