Dr Prasanta Guha is the Assistant Professor(HOD) in the Finance Department at Future Institute of Engineering and Management, Kolkata. He also heads the department of business administration in the institution. He has more than 20 years of teaching and research experience. He has completed his Ph.D. in management in the field of governance from IIT (ISM) Dhanbad. Over the years, he has guided more than 100 student projects at undergraduate and postgraduate levels. His research work has been published in various national and international journals of repute.

How do you tend to establish healthy relations with the students and fellow faculty?

“By providing support and understanding the grievances faced by faculty members and students”

Few factors are important to establish good relationships with students and faculty members, These are:

  • Being dedicated, disciplined and ethical.
  • An unbiased approach is important
  • Transparency in decision making and proper communication to the stakeholders 
  • Providing proper support to resolve the academic problems.

How do you try to bring in a practical approach towards subjects?

“Case studies, group discussions and live projects for students”

An in-depth study of a subject through interactive teaching methods is preferred by students. This includes discussions through case studies, video lessons and group discussions. Also, live projects aligning with management topics are allotted to the students. We also motivate our students to attend subject-oriented workshops. 


How do you strategize the curriculum and how often it gets updated?

“We follow the curriculum prescribed by MAKAUT University”

The curriculum is designed by the Maulana Abul Kalam Azad University of Technology (MAKAUT) and we follow it religiously. We ensure suggestions and constructive criticism during the curriculum meeting for updates. Providing the latest management education to our aspiring students is the main aim.

How does your department prepare students for placements and higher education?

“Facilitating training and counselling by the active placement cell”

  • Students counselling sessions by experienced faculty members. 
  • Communication classes, Soft skill sessions, Aptitude and IT skill development classes are allotted to students.

What are the challenges you faced while uplifting the quality of education in your department?

“Inadequate infrastructure for R&D activities and lack of awareness for subjects”

  • Lack of initiatives towards research and development and aligning the curriculum accordingly.

What has been your vision for this institute?

Being a faculty member my vision is to deliver my subject in the most effective”

  • Being an administrator, my vision is to optimize the collective efforts of my team and students. Teachers’ effort will impact the students’ quality and value creation.
  • In achieving this, leadership blended with rationality and ethics is practised. A good amount of transparency in decision making and reporting is being followed.

“Regular Faculty development programs and training sessions”

  • Organizing and motivating faculty members to participate in FDP’s. 
  • We often arrange for Research methodology workshops for motivating the teaching fraternity towards research.
