Mrs. Tamilselvi is an Assistant Professor of the Jerusalem College Of Engineering, Chennai. She did BE- ECE, ME-Embedded System Technologies, and pursuing PhD in Cognitive Networks at VISTAS, VELs University, Chennai. She has a total teaching experience of 21 years. Mrs. Tamilselvi also published 20 papers of which 9 are Scopus indexed and 1 SCI. Published a book in VLSI design. She received a total funding of Rs. 10,50,000/- from AICTE and TNSCST.

Being a Faculty of the ECE Department, what are your roles and responsibilities towards the Students?

“Monitor academic progress, engage class regularly and encourage creative ideas among pupils”

My duty is to engage classes regularly, punctually or impart such lessons and instruction. It is necessary to do such internal assessment/examination evaluation. We are monitoring the academic progress of the concerned year, encouraging the innovation and creativity ideas of the students.

How do you tend to establish healthy relations with the students and fellow faculty in Jerusalem College Of Engineering?

“Support each other, organize events and respect the boundaries on campus”

We mentor students on both academic and personal issues. I motivate the students by attending their extracurricular events and give strong knowledge over the curriculum. Our faculties are trustworthy. I Support my colleagues and offer help whenever required. I always respect their boundaries. 

How do you try to bring in a practical approach towards subjects and make it industry oriented?

“Provide integrated courses, and introduce the latest stimulation tool for pupils”

We ask the students to do small prototypes of the models and work more on design. I would introduce them to latest simulation tool related to the subject and make them work on it.

They get integrated courses related to industry from campus. 

What are the best practices offered by Jerusalem College Of Engineering to the students which help them gain necessary skills?

“Seminars, workshops, assignments, and more are available to pupils”

Students get challenging quizzes, role plays, assignments and Seminars. We conduct workshops, lectures with experts from industry and academicians from institutions like IIT on campus.

How do you strategize the curriculum and gets updated to make it befitting for the students?

“Identify resources, develop plan and organize FDPs or workshops in campus”

I used to understand the objective of the subject and its need for the students. We identify the resources and collect devise material. Also, develop plans accordingly. Our campus take the support to strengthen the knowledge through FDPs, Workshops like ATAL and MOOCs

What are your views upon the placements and higher education about the students from Jerusalem College Of Engineering?

“Motivate students to participate in training, mock interviews, internships and more”

Our students are motivated to involve in the all inclusive training provided by the placement cell of the college. GATE questions are taught and discussed during the classroom teaching. Separate GATE coaching is also given for interested students after the college hours. We conduct Mock interviews, internships and Industrial visits. This also helps students in placement, and get motivated to do higher studies.

How do you help your student to cope up with the competition being so high in the outside world?

“Update students with the latest technology, introduce positive competitions and motivate them”

We introduce healthy and positive competitions amongst pupils.Motivate them to work as a team and as an individual. Our campus introduces pupils to the latest technologies in their domains. We keep them updated about today's requirements so as to make them maintain the right attitude. 

Do you have any extracurricular activities/ programs to enhance the skills of the students or expose them to real-world challenges?

“Organize activities at the inter department and intra department level”

The department has a student’s association and they use their leadership abilities and organizational skills. They also organize many activities at the inter department and intra department level. There are technical and non-technical clubs to encourage the students to not only display their leadership skills but also to show their creativity and innovation.

What are the challenges you faced to uplift the quality of education of Jerusalem College Of Engineering?

“Executing curricular delivery, lots of paperwork and pressure are greatest challenges faced by us”

Time is the prime factor faced for planning and executing the curricular delivery. Lots of paperwork and performance pressure are yet other factors that are faced to uplift the quality of education.

When you came to college, what was your vision and how are you trying to achieve the same?

“Update students' requirements and achieve campus growth”

When I came to college, my vision was to work with complete dedication and Involvement. Our focus is to do the given work and achieve the target on time with all skills. I aimed to become an engineer. We keep updating ourselves to meet the students’ requirements and give them the right motivation to make them industry ready which directly motivates me to achieve my target.

How does the curriculum of your college ensure the best practice of the industry?

“Internships, seminars, workshops and industrial visits are provided to pupils”

The curriculum of the department holds project-oriented labs. It contain design and implementation of small electronic gadgets. This also includes simulation tools and programming. So, students are able to have hands-on experience. MoUs are made with various industries through which students are sent for internships. Students are made to interact with the industry people through seminars, workshops and industrial visits.

How does the college enhance the skills of the faculty and prepares them according to the industry standards?

“Arrange workshops, FDPs, and publication support for faculties”

Our college encourages the faculty to participate in FDPs and workshops organized by AICTE, MOOCs and other technical societies. Workshops are arranged for the faculty at the college itself with experts from industry. Being an autonomous institution, the faculty are involved in the curriculum and syllabus design also. The college provides support to the faculty with monetary benefits for publications in reputed journals and to participate and present papers in conferences at both national and international level.

What are the interventions and approaches you bring in apart from curriculum to train/teach the students?

“Provide proper support, give feedback during curriculum and track students performance”

We give feedback during the curriculum design. Provide proper support in making the students understand the objective of the subject. Faculties continuously motivate the students by tracking the students' performance.

“Talented faculty, transparent management and teamwork are greatest strengths of campus”

Transparent Management, highly motivated and talented faculty are greatest strengths. Good team spirit and coordination amongst the faculty. Highly experienced faculty members are provided on campus. All these can be enhanced by motivating the faculty at the right time. Self-assess themselves to have self growth.

“Update your skills, knowledge and pursue your passion”

Get an early start and keep the skills updated. You must find a balance with your personal life.
