Mr. Dr. K.P. Sriram has been working as an Assistant Professor in the Information Technology, Artificial Intelligence and Data Science Department at Meenakshi Sundararajan Engineering College, Chennai, Tamil Nadu. He is pursuing his Doctoral Degree from Anna University. He has also presented papers in multiple conferences and has published papers in reputed journals. Being a Faculty of the IT Department, what are your responsibilities towards the students?

"My responsibility is to teach students and ensure their all around development"

As an Assistant Professor, my responsibility is to ensure effective classroom teaching and learning for students and provide them with the best knowledge. Also I need to ensure their overall development and guide them for their career or academic queries as and when required. Assure effective classroom teaching.

How do you establish healthy relations with the students?

"Through transparent, trustworthy and recurrent interaction with them"

As we all know, regular communication is very essential to ensure a healthy relationship with everyone. Hence I regularly interact with them during and outside classes as well and try to understand their issues and queries very carefully and from their point of view so that I can resolve them on time. 

How do you introduce a practical and industry oriented approach towards subjects?

"I keep encouraging my students to take and work on real time projects"

For the purpose of enforcing an industry driven and practical approach towards subjects, I insist my students work on real time industry projects where they can utilize their existing skills and build new one. 

Which best practices are offered by your department to students to help them gain necessary skills?

"We follow E3 approach and have introduced social beneficial innovation program for them"

We ideally follow the E3 approach which is nothing but an amalgamation of 3 words, enrichment, enhancement and empowerment which allows our students to present technical papers, improve their soft skills, present project proposals and participate in mock interviews. In addition to this, our Social Beneficial Innovation is there to improve their theoretical and practical knowledge and prepare them to serve the society and industry. 

How do you strategize and update the curriculum to make it befitting for the students?

"We have collaborated with many industries to enhance our teaching as per their expectations"

We have signed MOUs with many organizations to bridge the gap between our education practices and industry demands. We also conduct seminars, workshops and webinars as and when required and take students for professional visits.

How does your department prepare students for higher education and placement?

"Our college organize company based training programs and career counseling sessions regularly"

We regularly motivate our students to stay focused towards their goals and also conduct company specific training to inculcate best communication and technical skills in students so that they can secure good jobs in reputed organizations. Along with this, career guidance sessions and placement training are also offered to students. 

How do you prepare your students to cope up with this competitive world?

"By ensuring they participate in college academic and non-academic activities including symposiums"

We support and assist our students in every possible way to participate in symposiums. And we regularly monitor their progress and ensure they participate in sports competitions, conferences and write journals. Also we ask them not to compare their individuality with anyone as they are totally amazing and unique in their own way.

Which extracurricular activities are organized in college to enhance the skills of students?

"Awareness events are organized to educate students on how to save our environment and electricity"

We totally understand that extra-curricular activities are equally important for students as the academics are. Hence we conduct a wide variety of activities such as awareness camps to maintain and save our environment, sessions on healthcare and saving electricity. In addition to this, students are motivated to conduct seminars and conferences to strengthen their management and leadership skills and remove their fear of public speaking.

What challenges are you facing to uplift the education quality of your department?

"Unavailability of qualified teachers to teach latest technologies to our students is a major hurdle"

The major challenge in front of us currently is to find suitable and highly qualified professionals and mentors to teach our students as per ever changing technologies. 

When you joined this college, what was your vision for it and how are you trying to achieve the same?

"Providing best quality education to our students and help them to achieve their goals"

My vision when I joined this college was to offer the finest quality education to my students by utilising my past knowledge, experience and upgrading my skills from time to time. And attending faculty development programs helps me a lot in making my vision turn into reality. 

How does the curriculum of your college ensure the best practices of the industry?

"We take feedback and suggestions from our industry partners and teachers while updating it"

We keep ourselves updated with the latest trends and developments of the corporate world and this knowledge helps us a lot while we draft and update our curriculum. Also eminent industry experts and academicians are involved in the whole process to give their suggestions and inputs on what kinds of courses and training programs should be included in the curriculum for the benefit of students and their bright future. 

How does your college enhance the skills of faculties and prepares them as per industry standards?

"Through faculty development programs and supporting them to publish research papers"

Our faculties are encouraged to participate in conferences and faculty development programs. And they are also motivated to present research papers in regional and national level events.

What approaches do you bring in apart from curriculum to teach the students?

"We supplement students' knowledge through events like seminars, workshops and field visits"

Our college regularly organizes events and activities such as seminars, symposiums, workshops to make our students aware about the culture, working style and requirements of the industrial world. Apart from this, out of the box hours are planned for identifying new talents in students. Lastly industrial visits are conducted to train our students about the latest technologies and tools and it makes them more confident by enhancing their skills.

Any valuable advice which you would like to give to the students to have a prosperous career ahead?

"Set achievable goals for yourself and never try to cover 2-3 things at a time, stay disciplined"

I would like to suggest to my dear students and youths of our society to set realistic and short term goals for them. As you will achieve success by investing your time to learn new skills and building knowledge. But don't try to mug up everything at once, be consistent and disciplined in your sincere efforts. Live your life to the fullest but with an aim in mind.
