Mrs. M. Malini Gayathri has been working as an Assistant Professor of Civil Engineering Department at Meenakshi Sundararajan Engineering College, Chennai, Tamil Nadu. She has done ME and PhD as part of her academics. She has expertise in research and consultancy work and she is currently doing research on topics like control strategies for carbon dioxide emission and recovery of products from carbon sequestration.

How do you maintain a healthy relationship with the students and fellow faculty?

"Educating students and giving them a better future is my main responsibility"

To establish a healthy relationship with my students, I regularly interact with them so that I can address their issues and academic queries and provide time resolutions to them. And I keep classroom environment very calm and positive so that students can gain complete subject knowledge.

How do you bring in an industry oriented and practical approach towards subjects?

"By conducting experiments and practical to strengthen students technical concepts"

To include industry oriented and practical approaches towards subjects, we give more emphasis on practical learning of students as compared to inculcating only theoretical knowledge and hence conduct a lot of experiments in labs, organize professional visits and assign them a wide variety of real time projects and assignments.

Which best practices are offered by your department to the students to help them gain necessary skills?

"We use latest ICT tools while teaching students and also conduct remedial classes for them"

We have introduced mentoring sessions and remedial classes as a permanent feature in our daily time table. And we also use ICT facilities in the classroom and useful links available on the department website for the students self-learning. Apart from this, guest lectures, field visits are also organized by us to upskill our students and make them ready for the outside competitive and corporate sector.

How does your department prepare students for higher education and placement?

"We provide placement oriented and personality development trainings and counseling sessions"

We regularly arrange counseling sessions and training programs to educate our students about scope and application process for pursuing higher education and to make them industry ready. We also offer work integrated learning opportunities to them so that they can become more confident and financially independent.
