What is your philosophy of leadership? How would you describe your leadership style?

“A democratic leadership style is what I follow”

I believe in a democratic leadership style, but obviously with a goal oriented approach. In Sahrdaya, we are open to the ideas of all the stakeholders, including students and parents.

Could you please describe in brief your views on the adverse effect Covid – 19 pandemic has shown on the education sector pertaining to the academic & non-academic system?

“The pandemic has completely changed the education ecosystem”

As we all know, COVID-19 has changed the ecosystem of education at large. But, I can say that the world has become more comfortable with the virtual domain and various technologies. In the post covid world, every sector will have disruption by technological innovation. So the demand for engineers and technologies will be increasing. So, educators like us should be committed to delivering engineers with employability skills.

Any insights into how your Institute could be more welcoming to students of different economic backgrounds?

“We ensure scholarships for economically challenged students”

Sahrdaya is promoted by IDET (Irinjalakuda Diocesan Educational Trust) of the Catholic Church, and Bishop Mar Pauly Kannokadan is the Chairman. I appreciate the diocese and IDET for providing various financial scholarships to the economically challenging students apart from the scholarships given by state and central governments. Last academic year, we had given approximately 1.5 crores as management scholarships.

What do you see as the Institute's greatest strengths?

“Our team is the backbone of our institution”

I strongly believe that our Sahrdaya team is our greatest asset and strength. Faculty members are well qualified from various prestigious institutions. Project-based learning is another major strength of our college. Our college has a project policy. i.e., starting from the 1st semester onwards, students will be doing projects, and at the end of the semester, we arrange an exhibition to assess the projects and give prizes for the best projects. A very good state of the art infrastructure spreading over 45 acres of green residential campus with a total build-up area of 57854 sq.m is another strength of Sahrdaya

What do you think should be the Institute’s top priority over the next 10 years?

“Research is our prime focus”

Our major focus will be to increase the number of research publications and patents for the next ten years. We also have a Technology Business Incubation (TBI) running in our campus to support the startups, and a few companies are working now. Our focus is to increase the number of companies so that our students will get internships and placements from our own TBI.

What would you like people to know about your Institute that they may not know?

“We ensure students are groomed once they enter professional life”

As our students are more from rural areas, they may lack communication skills to interact with people when they come to their professional life. Hence, we have a dedicated language lab facility for the benefit of the students. Sahrdaya provides a holistic learning ambiance with enough space for extra-curricular and co-curricular activities. We have good sports facilities which include the second-largest indoor stadium in the state. Innovation and Development Center provides a good activity platform, and we celebrate almost all celebrations on campus.

Any advice or suggestions you would like to give to the current youth and the aspiring students?

“Industries have evolved and look for creative and innovative mindsets”

Our education system and placement strategies have changed now. Industries require candidates with creativity and innovation. My advice to current aspiring youths is to develop practical skills in your chosen area, a spirit of creativity and innovation. Also, try to serve your own mother country, as India needs visionaries and technocrats capable of leading the country in the coming era of technological competition.

Could you speak a little about the culture and the learning environment in your Institute?

“Diversity brings new learning experiences”

Although our Institute is situated in Kerala, we have a multistate culture and tradition existing on our campus. Apart from this, we have many NRI students studying in our campus, helping other students get to know cultural diversities.

Regarding the learning environment, we encourage our students to think freely and develop any idea on which our faculty members give inputs only on their feasibility part. It helps our students develop their novel ideas, many of which have become very good national and even international importance projects. The ambiance created by the Institute and the potential of our students have created a perfect blend for supporting the innovation-friendly -entrepreneurship culture in the campus.
