Bhupal B.Dhongade is working as the Head of Department for B.Sc. - Information Technology and BSc.- Data Science department at Reena Mehta College. He has done B.Sc.-IT, MCA, LLB and Post Graduate Diploma in Cyber Law and Information Technology. Prior to this, he had worked as a Web Developer in a reputed organization and as an Assistant Professor at a reputed college.

What keeps you connected with the education sector?

“My passion to educate young minds is the reason”

I am very fond of teaching students and inculcating good values in them, and my source of motivation and passion is none other than my father who has been a professor for the past 30 years and is also working as an Advocate. This quality has kept me inspired and connected with the Education Sector. My experience in Reena Mehta College has been amazing because of the cordial environment and respect which I get here.

What are your roles and responsibilities towards the students?

“To look after all activities including exams and students' concerns”

Being the HOD of BSC-IT and BSC-Data Science at Reena Mehta College my responsibilities are teaching students, managing and controlling subordinate faculties. And I am also accountable for setting up examination papers, organizing webinars, events, workshops and other ancillary functions.

What extracurricular activities are organized in college to enhance the skills of the students?

“We conduct various programs to directly expose them to the corporate environment”

In order to expose the students to real-world challenges, our college does organize various kinds of fun and learning activities, because we understand how important these activities are for students' growth and development. We organize webinars and workshops where we invite our industry friends and experts to share their experiences and industry expectations with us. Apart from this, we make sure our students participate in job fairs. We have also started an Entrepreneurship cell and Incubation center where students can get guidance for their business ideas. 

How does the curriculum of your college ensure the future preparedness of students?

“We design and update curriculum by following university guidelines”

Our RMC college is affiliated to Mumbai University and hence, we follow the curriculum as laid down by the university. In addition to that, the college also organizes various seminars where our Alumni and industry partners share their real-life experiences and also provide insights regarding various job opportunities. Many students from B.Sc.-IT and BSC- Data Science have enrolled themselves in different certification courses in collaboration with Reena Mehta College.

How do you bring in a practical and industry-oriented approach towards subjects?

“I use the technique of participative learning and discussion”

While teaching I try to give students as many real-life examples as possible to make the base of the subject very strong and to make them understand a particular concept in a better way. I also help my students in grabbing Internship opportunities with the help of my networking outside and inside college-oriented. 

What approaches do you use apart from curriculum to teach the students?

“I give projects and practicals to our students”

Apart from the curriculum, I conduct various practicals for the students so that they can get a glimpse of how the knowledge that they are getting from college can be applied in practical situations. I also encourage them to build small projects on their own.

What makes your college unique in comparison to others? 

“We offer the best education and placements opportunities”

I would like people to know that Reena Mehta College is not just an institute where you get an education in return for money but it is indeed an institute that thrives towards the overall development of the students. Our college has a specialized women's development cell which is actively involved in promoting the well-being of female students.

What are some of the greatest strengths of your college?

“Our strength lies in our students, faculties and infra”

Our college is well versed with the latest technological equipment in classrooms and labs. We do have highly qualified and experienced faculties who proffer the best quality education in our students. And lastly, our students, because the very first reason for our existence is our students. Hence all these contribute equally to making us strong. 

What are some of the biggest challenges for higher education in general and for RMC specifically?

“Lack of highly qualified faculties and research opportunities”

As far as higher education is concerned, major challenges in today’s time lies in poor infrastructure, shortage of faculty and insufficient resources for promoting research and innovation. Regarding Reena Mehta College, I believe we should focus more on enforcing a multidisciplinary approach in higher education so that students’ knowledge may not be restricted to only a few subjects.

Any suggestions which you would like to give to the current youth and aspiring students?

“Study not to earn a degree but a character and skills”

I would like to suggest to aspiring students that they should not look up to their education just to get a degree. Instead, gather some hardcore knowledge that you can use to solve real-world issues. Make a habit of reading something good every day.
