Being the HOD (EEE), what are your roles and responsibilities?

“Good leadership and management”

I represent the department for its quality and look after the daily affairs of teaching and non-teaching faculty. I ensure the development of the department in all sorts of activities and provisions necessary to support students and faculty members. Inculcating professional ethics to students and encouraging research-oriented activities for faculty members and students are my responsibilities.

How do you try to bring in a practical approach towards subjects?

“Project oriented learning and tie-ups with industries”

We make our students more confident and clear from a theoretical point of view by introducing them to industrial technology by arranging lectures and training programs through industrialists. Also, students are asked to do small practical and project works in order to familiarize themselves with the real industrial environments. Collaboration with IIT-PALS to encourage students to attend to the latest technological knowledge has been done. We involve students in Entrepreneurial activity in association with NEWGEN – IEDC and have ISO accreditation for proper procedural functioning. Moreover, encouraging them to participate in project competitions with respect to their field of interest and motivating them to apply for funding with the innovative concepts.

How do you strategize the curriculum to make it benefitting for the students?

“Planning, discussing and integrating with experts advice and feedback”

The department has a Curriculum Development Cell and Board of Studies to design and develop the curriculum and syllabus. The Academic council of the University receives the major input from the Board of Studies constituted in each Department with faculty members, and approves the proposal from the department after detailed deliberations with academic and industrial experts. The curriculum is revamped based on suggestions from various peer groups and feedback data about the existing curriculum and analyzes the redefining process by collecting the views from different sources such as faculty, alumni, student feedback and industry. The process of gap analysis in the curriculum of the various courses is considered at the micro-level. The revamped curriculum is designed by imparting the course outcome in each course to improve the intellectual skills and higher-order thinking capabilities among students to generate the trained as well as skilled manpower to the society. The curriculum and the syllabi are designed to achieve academic excellence and professional competency to find solutions to Industry integration and Internationalization.

How do you help your student to cope up with the high competition outside?

“Training, collaboration and activities at par with excellence”

Encouraging competition among students in a positive manner and setting the goals for achieving are major aspects to boost their confidence to face challenges ahead. We train them to work in a team and identify the uniqueness in them and excel in the area they are interested in. The student exchange program is offered with international universities for exploring the interest and scope for higher studies. Also, students are trained to crack the GATE, IELTS exams. The students are exposed to various skill training programs internally and externally offered by us and Government agencies as well. We have a Student Community Club called “Power Club” wherein all the activities related to curricular and extracurricular activities are conducted in association with IEEE-MGR Student Chapter. They are encouraged to participate and organize events inside and outside the institute.

What challenges do you face to uplift the quality of education of the EEE department?

“Overcoming the changing and growing learner’s needs”

To balance the diversified learning needs of students is the biggest challenge we face. We are constantly working to broaden our knowledge and resources to fulfill students' needs. Also, the latest educational trends, which are changing rapidly, are found to be challenging. To make students involved in work outside the class and to motivate them to pursue better training is a challenge.
