Dr. A.K. Branesh has been working as an Assistant Professor at Vels Institute of Science, Technology and Advanced Studies, Chennai, Tamil Nadu. He has done B.Sc in Physics, a Master in Computer Application and a Diploma in Animation as part of his academics and is currently pursuing PhD. He has 12 years of teaching experience with 5 years as an Assistant Professor at Vels University.

Being a Faculty of the Animation Department, what are your responsibilities towards the students?

"It is to imoart”

I would like to inform that Animation is a professional and also a job-oriented course. And being an Assistant Professor at Vels, my prime responsibility is to educate my students about latest developments which are taking place in outside world with respect to Animation. And making students industry ready by enhancing their overall personality is also one of my accountability. 

How do you build a healthy relationship with the students and fellow faculty? 

"By providing them a good environment to communicate and solve their issues"

To assure healthy relationship with the students and fellow faculties, I maintain a very friendly, respectful and trustworthy communication environment with them. And I provide my full support to them with respect to their academic and non-academic queries, because sometimes students have the idea, but they lack skills to implement them. Hence I also ensure that whatever information they seek from me, I can provide them on time. Overall, by creating an ambience where students queries can be listened and they can provide suggestions too without any fear help me to maintain a cordial relationship with them.

What kind of programs are conducted in your college to strengthen students skills and experience? 

"Workshops, professional visits and extra study sessions are organized by our college"

For the purpose of strengthening students skills and to ensure they stay updated with changing technologies, we organize events like workshops in collaboration with the industry experts, industrial visits followed by the sessions on sound design with respect to Phantom Effects. In addition to this, sessions on VFX study of models is also conducted by us as and when required as it is truly beneficial for the students to boldly face the interviews.

How do you strategize and update the curriculum to make it befitting for the students? 

"It is designed by the expert panel of University hence encompasses industry demands"

We follow the curriculum designed by the University to which we are affiliated. And after rigourous analysis and consideration of industrial demands and to bridge the gap between educational practices and those requirements, University update the curriculum every 3 years. And esteemed industry experts, academicians, Alumni of different colleges along with Board Panel take part in whole design and update process of curriculum before releasing it for use by colleges.

What are your views upon the placements of students from your department?

"Our students have grabbed amazing packages in reputed organization and many of them are studying abroad"

Our placement records are quite good and last year, as many as 12-16 companies visited our college to recruit students for various profiles, and total 42 students of our college secured good offers in some reputed companies, and highest package was of 9 LPA. And as far as higher education is concerned, so 5 students are pursuing their dream courses in the United kingdom. Some of our prominent recruiters are Ad2pro, and Phantom. 

What challenges have you faced to uplift the education quality of your department? 

"Using Google Meet to teach students during Covid was main hurdle for us"

As we all are aware that Animation subject is all about being creative and utlizing system-based programs to perform tasks such as 2D to 3D rendering and enhancing frame size from 24 to 30 within 2-3 minutes. And during Pandemic, delievering lectures related to 3D Animation by using Google Meet was a very challenging task for us. 

When you joined this college, what was your vision for it and how are you trying to achieve the same? 

"Upgrading education quality and practices college to enhance its college among students was my goal"

When I joined the Vels Institute, my aim was to improve the education quality of our college by utlizing my past experiences and knowledge. And teaching was always my passion since start, so including latest industry standards and expectations in our curriculum for the benefit of students was one I always wanted to acheive since I started working here. And it gives me immense pleasure while telling that I have come a long way and it has been a wonderful journey here till date.

Any valuable advice which you would like to give to the students for a prosperous career ahead?

"Stay perseverant and focused toward your study and dreams and make best use of your time"

I would suggest to my students to keep practicing the topics they learn in classrooms. Stay disciplined and focused towards your life goals and utlize your time in the best possible way to learn new skills. Also try to design innovative solutions for real worl problems as subjects like Animation has always been the creative.
