Global Institute of Management and Technology

Prof. Dr Sudipto Bhattacharyya is serving as the Principal, Global Institute of Management and Technology, Krishnanagar, Nadia. Having worked in the education sector for a considerable amount of time, he brings various digital methodologies for students and faculty to grow simultaneously. Read here what he has to say in his interview.

In these hard times of COVID-19 situation, how are you engaging your students and how are you getting new admissions?

“There are many hiatus caused by pandemic for us to impart online education”

The pandemic has caused several hindrances for us. Firstly, students coming to our college belong to economically weaker backgrounds. Thus, it is difficult for them to meet the fee requirements. The crowd at our college is composed of engineering students. Since they belong to rural areas, there is a shortage of online facilities at their places. They don’t have access to internet facilities and, in fact, a basic smartphone.

In mechanical and civil engineering, where the workshop is an integral part of education, students learn by practicing; bringing the whole lab in a virtual mode is quite difficult; still, we are trying our best.

What is your philosophy of leadership? How would you describe your leadership style?

“A participatory leadership style serves the best for the prosperous growth of the institution”

I serve the stakeholders of all my college students, faculties, and management by the institute's vision. I believe in participatory leadership, going for anything after discussing with all the stakeholders, and taking their valuable feedback to grow the college and beyond.

How does the curriculum of Global Institute of Management and Technology ensure the best practice of industry?

“There is a rapid demand of bringing new-age technology in the curriculum”

The new-age technologies that are changing the landscape of the industry are not a part of the curriculum. We are continually trying to bridge the gap by training teachers and making them up to date and building a connection between the industry experts and the students. Apart from it, we have an affiliation with the Maulana Abul Kalam Azad University of Technology, and we are implementing changes as soon as they occur.

Would you like to tell any significant initiative that you have taken for the College?

“Creating digital presence and awareness was a crucial step”

The digital presence of the Global Institute of Management and Technology was not so good when I joined. I focused on the college's digital transformation journey through various online activities and events in webinars and interactive sessions to promote the college to the aspiring youth and create brand awareness for the college.

“A challenging part that we are noticing in students is a lack of communication skills. Starting from the first year onwards, we have introduced grooming for soft skills, which will help them in their placements. We also keep students updated on the new age technologies shaping the future, such as Block chain, Artificial Intelligence, and all.”

What are some of the biggest challenges for higher education in India?

“A bridge is required to fill the gap between industry and colleges”

There is a considerable gap in how the curriculum is designed and what is required in the Industry. Students can be academically excellent, but the industry's requirements are not met as far as their technical knowledge. The government is taking steps to bridge the gap, bringing in the New Education Policy, which will improve the situation.
