Prof. Vinay S. Nimbalkar is the Principal at Sandipani Technical Campus (Faculty of Engineering), Latur with an academic experience of 29 years and has 10 research publications. He has handled the responsibilities of Dean Academic and Dean Administration. He was HOD for 10 years in the Electronics Department in Terna College of Engineering Nerul, Navi Mumbai, and also worked at Bharatiya Vidyapeeth College of Engineering Belapur, Navi Mumbai. He was a Principal at Polytechnic College for 8 years. Being a Principal, he motivates students and the faculty to upskill themselves with the changing time and industry. Apart from this, he is also involved in social activities along with academics and active member of ISTE. He has worked in Mumbai for the last 27 years in the education sector. 

What are the key factors that keep you connected with the education sector?

“To do better for the community of students as per the industry standards”

The key factor for handling responsibility is accountability. Unless and until you are accountable, then and only then the process will begin. The updating is important as a leader because it reflects on staff and students. The joy of students when they meet after graduation as a representative of one of the companies, it gives the satisfaction of the efforts you had taken.

What is your philosophy of leadership? How would you describe your leadership style?

“Inclusive leadership and being a good listener”

As a leader one should be a learner. He/She must be adaptable to changing the world, eager to know new things always, and also a good initiator for any activity. The style of my leadership is aggressive, ready to make fast decisions, and also welcoming good suggestions from colleagues. It is always better to listen quietly and then take the right decision so that no reversibility occurs in the decision once made. Also, encourage and credit to those who execute wonderfully during the completion of the task. One should always take the decision and also always guide the subordinates.

How does the curriculum of Sandipani Technical Campus ensure the best practice of the industry?

“On-site visits for theoretical and practical learning”

The curriculum of our campus is decided by- Dr. Babasaheb Ambedkar Technical University, which is analogous to the industry. Besides this, we also provide internships to all students in various companies and also visit the industries at the teacher’s level. We send the students to the industry, especially for the civil branch the site visits are planned. Also sending the students for the 8th semester in industries to work is a part of the module so that one can be familiar with the latest technology.

What do you think should be the University’s top priority over the next 10 years? 

“Designing syllabus industry-oriented, equipped with the latest technology”

The top priority should be teaching skills that are relevant to this dynamic industry and guiding industry experts as per the related branches. From 2nd year each semester should have one small project to be developed and depth can be provided as years prolong up to the final year. The university should have a tie-up with all leading industries so that students can approach them easily and proceed for learning new and relevant technology. The gathering of all students to be held for the exhibition of projects carried out by the students in different branches per year. It will motivate the students. The scholarships or fee concessions must be given to those who do well based on the merit of the project. 

How are the placement opportunities for students at Sandipani Technical Campus?

“The right exposure and guidance”

As the college is located in a rural area, we have to take more effort. So more practical exposure, exchange amongst industries is the only solution and guidance from experts. Also, the courses (short time) having a duration of one or two months are being listed and students are taking advantage of that by reaching Pune, Aurangabad.

Any suggestions you would like to give to the current youth and the aspiring students?

“Be a learner always at any age”

Today’s students must be mentally tough for the challenges to be faced. One must have practical exposure and be eager to take it. The updating of skills is very important as technology progresses. The main thing to focus on is taking initiative, making mistakes, and then correcting them.

What are some plans that you are currently designing for your college and students?

“Focusing on the development of programming skills”

I have planned to increase the competency among the students. We are organizing debugging of computer programming to enhance programming skills which students feel tough initially. We also provide hands-on practice for all practical, especially for the Mechanical and Civil branch. We also meet the experts from the industry to know what the recent developments have taken place. One has to talk individually to improve communication skills. We also provide training for new software in applied studies, to design and develop “start-ups”. Hope much more to say but, finally, each one has to paddle in his own boat.
