Dr. Hanumantha Rao has been working as the Principal of Matrusri Engineering College, Hyderabad, Telangana. He has done BE in Mechanical Engineering from VEC, Gulbarga university, M.Tech. in Machine Design from JNTU College of Engineering, Kakinada and PhD in Mechanical Engineering from JNTU, Hyderabad. He has an amazing 12 years of working experience in the Manufacturing Industry and 22 years of fabulous experience in the Teaching and Training sector. He is also a Professional Member of Fellow Institution of Engineers India, Member of The Institute of Indian Foundrymen, Life Member of Indian Society of Technical Education, Indian National Science Congress and Society of Automotive Engineers India, Member of the review board for International Journal of Advanced Manufacturing Technology published by Springer publications. He has published 40 technical research papers in numerous National and International Journals and has presented 25 research papers in various International and National Conferences. He has also been recognized as the Research Supervisor for PhD Scholars of Mechanical Engineering at Osmania University and JNTU, Hyderabad. In addition to this, he has guided 6 PhD students, 12 M. Tech students projects, 45 BE/B. Tech students projects and currently 1 student is pursuing PhD under his guidance.

From the time of its inception, our institute has tenaciously adapted the ever changing and challenging global needs of technical education and adopts innovative methods from time to time to improve the quality of higher education. We have also established E-Yantra Lab with the help of e-Yantra lab Setup Initiative (eLSI), MHRD IIT Bombay. And to empower our students with the problem-solving skills, transformative and emerging technologies, we have collaborated with CISCO and Matrusri CISCO Academy is an offshoot of CISCO's pursuit of knowledge-seeking partners. In addition to this, we have been associated with CodeTantra, a government of India recognized startup which provides interactive platform for Virtual University, Online Classes, Assessments, Proctored Exams, Assignments, Auto-grading, Plagiarism Checks, Learn Anywhere, Learn Coding- all in one platform. Lastly, we have collaborated with a Knowledge Partner Spoken–Tutorial of IIT Bombay to educate our students on FOSS (Free and Open Source Software) like Linux, Scilab, LaTeX, PHP & MySQL, Java, C/C++, LibreOffice etc. via an easy Video tool - Spoken Tutorials Google award winning MOOC.

How do the courses of your college ensure the future preparedness of students?

"We ensure students get best industrial exposure hence best industrial practices have been adopted by us"

Our main objective is to inculcate best skills in students by educating them how to use various tools and techniques pertaining to their respective courses and how to develop their overall personality by using the technologies and learning to communicate confidently. Hence after providing them necessary training programs, we assess their progress by assigning them projects and offering them suitable internships so that they can get a proper exposure of how things work at ground level. Also, we motivate our students to believe in themselves and supplement their knowledge by ensuring their participation in professional networks, conferences, competitions and boot camps.

How did you train your faculty to deliver the programs to students in the best possible way?

"They are trained through FDPs and real time training programs"

The Matrusri Engineering College regularly organizes Faculty Development Programs, hands-on training sessions before the commencement of semester to upskill and train faculty members on latest technologies and educational practices. Also our faculty members prepare study material in advance by carefully analyzing the curriculum and making best use of online learning platforms.

How do you build a connection between your institute courses and industry demands?

"We regularly organize professional visits, training programs and assign projects to students"

Our college is committed to developing its students from an industrial perspective. Hence we keep designing such training modules which could impart best technical and logical skills in every student. And in addition to regular academics, each student is trained for more than 100 hours using Virtual labs and mini projects are also assigned to them to help them utilize their learning to solve real world issues. Industrial visits for respective departments are organized from time to time so that students can be educated on how exactly the industry works and what skills they need to develop before joining the corporate world. Last but not the least, students are encouraged to write research papers and develop amazing solutions for real world issues by making best use of facilities we provide to them. 

What challenges did you face while inculcating these programs in your curriculum?

"Training of Teachers and establishing a good infrastructure to fulfill demands of these courses was a real challenge for us"

When we introduced Engineering courses in our curriculum, the main challenge for us was to train our faculty members to deliver the courses to our students in the best possible way and also to ensure that enough resources remain available to use hardware and software equipment. Because then only our students can take advantage of learning opportunities, study groups and supplemental instruction.

On what types of projects your students are currently working on through this program?

"Our students are developing some cool projects such as smart talk system and speech recognition systems"

Our students are developing some amazing projects on topics like road detection, smart talk, climatic patterns, speech recognition, graphical passwords and captcha organizing etc.
