Dr. Vinod V. Kharat has been working as the Head of General Science and Engineering Department at N.B. Navale Sinhgad College of Engineering, Solapur, Maharashtra. He has done B. Ed. and B. Sc. in Mathematics followed by M. Sc., M. Phil and PhD too in Mathematics as part of his academics. He also has 15 years of amazing experience as a Lecturer and Assistant Professor and now the HOD in the Teaching field. He is also the BOS Member of General Engineering and Member of PG Board of Studies at Punyashlok Ahilyabai Holkar Solapur University of Solapur, Reviewer of Mathematical Reviews /MathSciNet of American Mathematical Society. Apart from this, he was recognized as a PG Teacher and Research Guide in Mathematics by Punyashlok Ahilyabai Holkar Solapur University of Solapur, as a Research Supervisor by Visvesvaraya Technological University and his excellent work was acknowledged with many esteemed awards like Academic Excellence Award in 2018-19, 2014-15 and 2013-14 followed by Best Teaching Faculty which he received in 2012-13. He has presented and published a total of 34 research papers in various National and International journals and conferences. Also he has worked as a key resource person in several International level Faculty Development Programs, workshops and webinars and has delivered guest lectures too. He teaches Engineering Mathematics to students and his area of interest is Fractional Differential and Integro Differential Equations.

What are the key factors that keep you connected with the education sector?

"My passion of educating students and improving their life is the biggest factor behind my association"

I always had a passion for teaching students and sharing my knowledge and experience with young minds of our society. And working in the education sector gives me perfect opportunities to change the life of students in a positive way by delivering good education to them and making them a responsible citizen and human being. So I believe all these factors together have helped me to stay connected with the education sector. 

Being the Department Head at N.B. Navale Sinhgad College, what is your philosophy of leadership?

"A leader is a good team player and a confident individual who knows how to turn failures in success"

As per my opinion, a leader has to be a good team player first and he/she should lead by example. Apart from this, a leader should be inclusive in nature and work collaboratively with his/her team members by giving them appropriate opportunities and utilizing their skills in the best possible way. 

How do you strategize the key programs for the marketing and administration of your college?

"We deliver good quality education to students and rest is assured by their amazing results"

As far as I have observed the education sector, I can surely say that delivering quality education is the best tool for an educational institution to reach its potential students, so we are also doing the same and using the best industrial and educational practices in our teaching-learning methodologies.

In your experience, what changes should be made in the existing education system of India?

"We should keep upgrading our teaching pedagogies in line with changing global requirements"

India has a great tradition of education systems and we used to have the Gurukul System in older times, where the sole purpose was to ensure holistic development of young minds and aspiring students. Hence, I believe education delivery models and teaching pedagogies should be regularly updated in accordance with the changing global environment and its needs. 

How does the curriculum of your College ensure the best practices of industry?

"It is a perfect amalgamation of different courses and training programs as per industry standards"

Our curriculum is developed keeping in mind the development happening in the industrial world, hence it includes perfect courses and training programs to help students learn the skill sets required by the Industry. Also, learning here does not only mean our teaching pedagogy but the way students should behave as a human is also a matter of concern for us. Therefore along with transforming them into best Engineers, we inculcate values to make them a good citizen too.

How is your college more welcoming to students of different races or economic backgrounds?

"We treat everyone equally, provide them same learning opportunities and celebrate their achievements"

We believe in a simple quote “Sa Vidya Ya Vimuktaye'' which means education is open for all independent of their castes, creed, race or religion. Also we provide equal learning opportunities and outside world exposure to each student without any discrimination.

What are your duties and accountabilities for the college and students?

"I am responsible to keep students aware about possible career opportunities and skills they need to develop"

Being the Department Head, my responsibility is to keep students updated about possible career options and opportunities and skills they need to develop. In addition to this, monitoring their academic performance and development and taking necessary measures to correct the deviation of any kind also comes under the scope of my responsibilities.

What do you think should be your college’s top priority over the next 10 years?

"Developing a industry driven curriculum should be our goal in upcoming years"

I firmly believe that we should rigorously focus on developing an industry oriented curriculum and improve our educational practices to stay in sync with standards of both the educational and industrial sectors.

When you first joined this college, what was your vision for it and how far have you come in implementing them?

"Development of my department for students benefit was my only aim"

When I joined this amazing place, my aim was to work for the betterment of students and develop our department in such a way so that students can enjoy the learning process and don't consider it as a burden. And my journey till date has been amazing and memorable and we aspire to produce the highest quality Engineers and good human beings.

What would you like people to know about your college that makes it different from others?

"Our college offers job orientation courses and a promising future to students"

Our college not only provides the best quality education and amenities, but also offers amazing job opportunities to students so that they can design a bright career for themselves. Apart from this, students will get the finest industrial exposure here.
