Being the training and Placements Head, what is your philosophy of leadership? How would you describe your leadership style?

“To generate leadership skills in students to let them participate in every decision making”

I am on the Managing Committee of the Institute of Indian Interior Designers and also the Honorary Secretary of AESA (Architects Engineers & Surveyors Association), this helps us create a strong connection in the fraternity and these connections eventually help our students for Training and Placements. My idea of leadership is trying to lead by example, and then empowering my students to become more sincere professionals who will take responsibility for their actions and decisions.

What are the key factors that keep you connected with the education sector?

“The ability to create a change in society and making it a better place to live in”

I think, Education as a field is not just noble, but it’s a powerful tool to change a lot in society. I have had a long association with the students’ community over the last 15 years and I believe that if we bring about a change at the formative stage for these students, then we have the chance to create more mature, sensible professionals that will contribute responsibly towards the society and create better architecture and habitat for all. The energy and the potential these young minds possess is one of the key reasons why I enjoy being around the students and engage in this teaching-learning process.

Have you introduced any new programs at your college? Please give us a brief highlight of the same?

“Enhancing the learning in the arena of architecture to take it to new heights”

We have introduced the concept of Students working on Architecture and research projects with their faculty members, through which many students have worked on live smart city projects, interior projects in-house. Some of our students even get a chance to work with the BNCA Resource Centre (BRC), which undertakes live projects in the city and not just designs them but executes them too. We have also encouraged senior students to recommend their juniors at offices and firms with whom they are working or have worked in the past.

Do you have any extracurricular activities/ programs to enhance the skills of the students or expose them to real-world challenges?

“Expanding the activities in every way to make the institute circularly active”

Extra-Curricular activities, skill development, exposure to current industry trends are some of the important parts of the Co-curricular calendar of BNCA. Organizing International Tours, Visits to Architecture office abroad, visiting iconic projects, meeting Designers on Sites to understand their work, Guests lectures by Subject Experts, being Venue partner to events by industry persons, encouraging students to volunteer for events. We organize workshops in association with National – International Experts and schools and allow our students to participate in them. Our Students have worked on live projects in 10 countries under the United Nations Academic Impact Programs.

What are the placement statistics of your college?

“We follow the ideology of the right person for the right job”

When the college knows of a certain vacancy, then we recommend the best student for the same, as per the job requirement. The other way is, we have created a database of firms, category wise, city wise, and then we share the same with each of the 160 Students of the graduating batch. The Students then apply to the firm of their choice, put in references of their faculty members or guides, and move ahead in the process. Some of these students are opting to take a break after graduation to find their liking or many of them move ahead to do their Masters as well.
