Tell us about yourself – name, city of origin, course, year of intake.

Hello, I'm Saanvi Jain from Chandigarh, India, pursuing Bachelor of Data Science at the Sydney Campus right now. I joined S P Jain School of Global Management in September 2021.

Why did you decide to pursue the Bachelor of Data Science at SP Jain? Which aspects of the program stood out the most for you?

I chose this subject of study because it allows for a more hands-on approach with one of the best profs available. I've learned a lot about machine learning and data handling from the subjects presented here. S P Jain School of Global Management also provides a worldwide learning experience, which helped me become more confident while speaking with others.

You started/finished an internship - Congratulations! Could you tell us a bit about this role and the company you are interning/interned with?

I was a Software Development Engineering Intern as part of the Business Intelligence Sales Dial software development project for UPilot Inc, a software company located in Sunnyvale, CA, USA. It was an online 4-month internship. My primary responsibility here was to create a backend database engine that would be utilised as a filter mechanism for the user to use.

How did you find this internship opportunity? Why did you decide to pursue this role?

This chance offered me an insight of how the company will assign jobs to me in the future. It also helped me refine of my resume. This internship provided me with a better perspective on how to manage both my academics and the tasks that were assigned to me.

How did you prepare for your interviews? How did SP Jain help you prepare?

I read the job description that was provided to me when I applied for this internship. I created a set of questionnaires with the answers for myself so that I could be better prepared for the interview. S P Jain also set up one-on-one sessions with one of the faculty members who has a good approach to teaching and assisting me with the interview. This experience increased my certainty and confidence in the interview.

Do you think the skills you gained in your BDS program so far are helping you in this internship? How? Please share an example.

Before starting the internship over my break, I had learnt many programming languages in my previous semester, such as SQL, Python, and others, which helped me develop code for the tasks that I was given like MariaDB Column store , using data panes and plotly for report generation

What are some of the challenges you have faced during your internship? How did you overcome them?

Time was a major challenge for me because I had schoolwork as well as team meetings, both of which were quite frustrating. My friends and family helped me every step of the way on my adventure.

Only for students who are about to complete/have completed the internship – Did this internship help you make decisions about your future career path? How?

I have now finished my internship, acquiring experience, knowledge, and lifelong friends. This internship served as a foundation for my future profession. I now have a decent idea for my future job. I'm hoping to get into better companies as time goes on. All credit goes to my friends and professors for their assistance during my trip.
