Principal of Pimpri Chinchwad College of Engineering and Research, Ravet Pune (PCCOER), Dr. Harish Umashankar Tiwari, is the men behind the success and achievements of the college. He holds a B.E., M.E., and Ph.D degree, and has published nine research papers in various national and international journals. Apart from this, the academician has been accolated with National Gandhian Young Technological Innovation National Award at IIM Ahmedabad and Innovative Leader National Award by Jaihind Pariwar Bharat at Pune.
In an exclusive interview with collegedunia.com, Dr. Tiwari shares his journey towards the education industry and talks about PCCER.
The journey from being a Professor to Principal
From a very young age, I wanted to be a teacher but to teach in an Engineering Institute one should have some practical industrial experience also, so I spent some initial years in the industry to gain valuable industrial experience. After passing my post-graduation, I received various job offers, but I decided to pursue teaching. However, it requires authority and command over the subject to gain appreciation and respect. My passion has always driven me to work with young minds and talents.
After working for Eighteen years in teaching field at Finolex Academy and Pimpri Chinchwad College of Engineering, Nigdi, Pune, I got an opportunity to serve as a Principal, which provides a platform to contribute and implement my ideas on a bigger scale. Since then, I am working and trying to bring positive changes to the Institute. And it gives me immense pleasure to see the students and institute achieving and moving to such great heights.
Building a positive culture among students
In an educational institution, it is necessary to identify and satisfy the needs of the faculty and the students at large. To maintain a positive environment, we have developed an Echo system to support and solve the requirement of better Placement opportunities and Higher studies.
Apart from this, we all make it a point to exclude communication gap between the students and the faculty. Various sessions, events and workshops are organised, to make the interaction between all the individuals impactful and healthy. The focus is outcome based i.e. to prepare and transform students as per their own aspirations.

Philosophy and Leadership style of Dr. Tiwari
I believe in the decentralization of power while working in a team. As an administrator, my responsibility is to provide my team with a defined system, to help them execute their ideas and plans on a micro-level. As a leader, I always motivate my subordinates to achieve and contribute more to the growth of the Institute. The ideal target is to build a system, which can move on an auto pilot mode.
Discipline, Consistency and Patience are important aspect, which helps to achieve common goals!
Views on the faculty and students of PCCOER
We follow a two-fold approach in our underlying five pillar philosophies, which is Academic excellence, Research, and innovation, Training & Placement, Social awareness, Ethics & values. When we say academic excellence, it is for both students and faculty members. All faculty members are highly experienced and well qualified. They have been trained to update the students with recent trends and knowledge.
Faculty members of the Research and Innovation Centre are striving hard to provide project-based learning to the students. In this way, the development of faculty, as well as excellence in academic standards, is achieved.
Curriculum practices and placement opportunities at PCCOER
The curriculum of the Institute is dynamically mapped with the ongoing and upcoming requirements of the Industry. Savitribai Phule Pune University assists the board members in planning and executing the curricular plans. The college has additional courses in association with various Industries and experts to provide the students with the required exposure. Apart from this, we assure to hold regular workshops, seminars and guest lectures to keep the students as well as faculty updated with the real-world scenario.

Upcoming goals for the Institute
As an educational institution, we are responsible for the overall development of our nation. If we talk specifically about the Engineering sector, we are promoting Research and Innovation culture. The agenda behind this promotion is the development of entrepreneurial skills among the students.
We are developing an Echo system wherein they will be able to convert their projects into new products. The college will emerge as a leading force in the field of Research & Innovation in the coming future.
