Dr. M. Karthikeyan is working as the Principal of K.S.R. College of Arts and Science for Women. He has done PhD, M.Phil., M.Ed., M.A. and B.Lit. He has professional experience of 19 years and administrative experience of 4 years. He has been awarded several awards for his contribution to the teaching domain. He has organized several national-level seminars and training programs for KSR College. He has published 6 books and edited 3 books. He has also published 6 research papers in International Seminars and 17 research papers in National Seminar.

What are the key factors that keep you connected with the education sector?

“My nature of exchanging my knowledge with others”

I started my professional career as an Assistant Professor with zeal. My unique enthusiastic approach helps me to move the forthcoming kaleidoscopic path of my life being a Head of the Department, Principal and one of the Senate Members. From my beginning till now, I have followed some traits such as motivating myself and others using different teaching aids, maintaining healthy peer relationships with my surroundings, exposing individuality at right time, exchange of knowledge quest with students and colleagues to keep my way different. All these factors enhance me to prove my skills and talents of individualization in the education sector.

What is your leadership philosophy?

“Team should work together to get the desired result”

My philosophy is that the Unity of a team is its main strength. Our teamwork brings lots of applause and laurels to the college. We treat everyone equally and like family. Every event and program is organized under the guidance and wholehearted support of our faculty members and students. Though we all are having different backgrounds and experiences, we are united together as KSRCASW family under KSR Educational institutions.

How your college is more welcoming to students of different races or economic backgrounds?

“By giving admission preference to economically weaker students”

Teaching and learning should always be relevant, whether it’s related to your degree or extra-curricular activities. We encourage students to get out of their comfort zones by allowing them to explore in both academic and personal life. Our college is mainly based on the students’ marks that can encourage their future. Our college gives first preference to those students who are not strong economically, while taking admission.

What are some plans that you are currently designing for students?

“To generate research and innovation-based learnings windows for students”

Our major plans which we are presently working on for students are as follows:

  • To promote high-impact education and innovative research in a diverse and inclusive environment.
  • To expand interdisciplinary and multidisciplinary international collaborations.
  • To offer more research training for undergraduate students who will become future leaders in science, medicine, and industry

How do you establish a healthy relationship and environment in your college?

“By ensuring the reach of all basic facilities for all students”

In our college, we crucially give importance to hygiene and cleanliness in our environment. In our college, a club has been organizing for the environment and plant sapling called “Hygina”. For every other major occasion including national days, we plant saplings in memory of the hard work of our great leader. A positive and good environment includes a healthy and protective scale for students’ basic necessities. When the basic needs and facilities are imprinted on campus, there is a worthy outcome, always. 

What do you think should be the College’s top priority over the next 10 years?

“Open communicative environment and more collaboration with peer colleges”

Our college's main objective for upcoming years is to foster stronger connections between students, faculty and staff to improvise themselves not only in academics but also for this competitive world. To create more opportunities for students to develop leadership qualities in them. Continuous Women's empowerment programs will be conducted to promote women's sense of self-worth, ability to determine their own choices, and their right to influence social changes for themselves and others. We will collaborate with various universities for student and faculty exchange programs. 

How do you bring in practical and industry-oriented approaches towards subjects?

“Industry experts helps us in preparing courses for students”

In our college, Industry-oriented integrated courses are designed by professionals who are a part of the industry and know what needs to be taught to the students. These courses ensure students are fully prepared to take on the professional world.

How do you strategize and update the curriculum to make it befitting for the students? 

“By bridging the gap between available and required resources”

  • First of all, we define our vision, focus, objectives, and our student needs. 
  • After that, we identify available resources and opportunities which need to be created to make further resources accessible by students.
  • Then we collect and devise materials.
  • Lastly, we develop teaching plans, methods, and processes.

How does your college prepare students for placements?

“Our college proffer training to students based on individuals’ requirements”

Our college conducts a goal planning session to come up with a personalized preparation curriculum We provide placements-specific training including communication classes, aptitude and group discussion, mock interviews to our students to make them ready to fulfill companies’ expectations. We give previous year and freshly prepared practice papers to them to solve random aptitude-based tasks.

What extracurricular activities are organized in college to enhance the skills of the students?

“Academic activities are boosted with cultural tasks to promote all-around growth”

We have arranged extracurricular activities like:

  • Thinker’s Association to avoid students’ stage fear. 
  • Spoken English and Hindi classes for their communication enhancement.
  • Creative skill development hours to encourage unique talents.
  • Search and share to come up with new presentations. 
  • Recreation hours to recreate new from old.
  • Vasagar Vattam encourages them to read Tamil Literature Books.
  • National and International Seminars and Workshops. 

As a book writer, I motivate our students to write books and create blogs. 

How does your college enhance the skills of the faculty and prepare as per industry standards?

“By assisting them to enroll in professional training and faculties programs”

We all know that the growth of students' knowledge depends on the knowledge provided by teachers. This is being implemented by making faculties attend "Campus-to-Corporate" training by companies such as TCS, Wipro, etc. Being a member of ICT Academy, faculties are regularly undergoing various Faculty Development Programs organized by ICT Academy along with industries. Trailblazer Connect is another opportunity given through our college where faculties involved in it will have good exposure to industry standards and scenarios
