Which one should I choose between IIT Madras DoMS and IIM Udaipur for an MBA?

SV
Saransh Vyawahare Posted On : January 18th, 2023
MBA from Indian Institute of Management, Udaipur (2018)

My choice will forever be IIM Udaipur solely because of the IIM tag. I know people will criticize me for this mindset but one cannot ignore the IIM brand name. Moreover IIT is a top technical institute but it’s a fact that its Management Department is not at par with the top B Schools.

  • IIM Udaipur curriculum is way more rigorous and structured than that of IIT Madras.
  • The 2-year flagship courses offered by IIMs just does not groom you academically but mentally also. It makes you ready to step into the real corporate world.
  • The curriculum at IIMs are very demanding and require a lot of determination, hard work and sacrifices on the part of students. This disciplines them and also grooms their personality.
  • The quality of peer learning is excellent at IIMs as you interact with masterminds from various backgrounds and fields.

Overall I feel curriculum-wise IIM has more to offer than an IIT simple because of the fact that it specializes in the field.

Which MBA college is better, specifically for MBA-HR, Narsee Monjee (NMIMS) Mumbai or XIMB, Bhuvaneshwar?

DM
Divyang Mittal Posted On : July 7th, 2021
Studied MBA from SVKM's NMIMS

You should definitely choose NMIMS Mumbai. A number of people would be of the opinion that XIMB HR is good but the change in the brand name from XIMB HR to XaHR has adversely affected the placements and compared to this, NMIMS Mumbai HR is growing extremely well in the case of placements.

You can compare the two colleges on the following points:

  • Location: Mumbai is the best city to do your MBA from. The city has a lot to offer in terms of growth in life and you will not be able to learn like this in a place like Bhuvaneshwar. You will also have better live project opportunities, a good corporate interface and this is where NMIMS trumps XIMB.
  • Batch size: NMIMS has a smaller batch size of 60 students as compared to the 120 student batch that XIMB has. NMIMS takes students on the basis of merit whereas XIMB has a few reservations as well.
  • CTC: XIMB may have lower CTC due to higher batch size and NMIMS has a better average.

A lot of the current XIMB HR students will advise you to not go for XIMB HR. It does have lower fees but NMIMS has many more advantages that offset this parameter. Overall, NMIMS has many better profiles to offer as compared to XIMB.

If you are stuck in this dilemma, you should surely go ahead and opt for HR at NMIMS Mumbai.

Indian business schools NMIMS Hyderabad and JAGSOM (IFIM Bangalore) offer top marketing MBA programs. Your best option depends on your interests, professional ambitions, and other considerations. Consider these variables before choosing:

  1. Reputation and Rankings: Both schools are respected in the industry and rank among India's top B-schools. NIRF placed JAGSOM 43rd in 2021 and NMIMS Hyderabad 34th in 2020.
  2. Curriculum: MBA Marketing at both schools is updated and thorough. However, the program's academic structure and electives must match your interests.

RS
Rashmi Singh Posted On : January 12th, 2023
MBA from Indian Institute of Management Ranchi (2019)

Both programs have their own merits and demerits. Yet I am here to talk about XAHR’s MBA-HRM only. I will further list down some points in favor of my inclination toward this program particularly.

  • According to Eduniversal Best Masters Ranking Human Resources Management - Central Asia, XAHR holds the 5th position among the top B Schools within India specifically for this program.
  • Being one of the oldest Educational institutions in India, it has rich cultural values.
  • It just does not focus on academics but also on the extracurricular growth of its students.
  • The faculty is one of the most experienced ones, with both industry and teaching experience.
  • The comprehensive curriculum makes it possible for the students to experience the HR Conclaves, Leadership talks, and Outbound Leadership Program(TSAF).
  • The 3-month student exchange program is an excellent opportunity provided by the college.
  • Its early establishment has helped develop a strong alumni base which brings in many top companies for recruitment.
  • Excellent exposure is offered through Live Projects and Corporate Competitions.

All these features make the XAHR’s MBA-HRM program one of the most coveted courses in this field.

Should I do ops management from SP Jain or choose Great Lakes Chennai for its PGDM, where I get to choose my interested field (finance, marketing, etc.)?

When you follow your interests and passions, the result will be magical. This is the apt answer to your question. The primary importance should be given to your career and interests, not the institution. Of course, institutes play a major role in giving foundational support to excel in your career, but never waste more time in the selection process of the institution. Follow your mind, and if you are not sure about SP Jain, then opt for Great Lakes, as they ensure great academic support and the best infrastructure facilities.
