Change of branch at IIIT Delhi is possible but subject to certain rules and regulations. The change of branch from one program to the other begins only after the grades of the second semester are out. You will have to fill a form for the same and can also mention more than one program in the order of preference. Here are the rules and regulations pertaining to branch change
Hope this helps you!
I am an alumnus of B.Tech CSE from IIIT Delhi. I joined in 2008. These were the two most difficult courses in CSE during my time-
Only 2008 and 2009 batch students got to study under Khushil Saini. He taught Digital Circuits to first-semester students, and Computer Organization to second-semester students. Sir taught at NSUT before joining IIIT Delhi. 12 was the most one could score in Computer Organization, to pass with a D grade. However, some students did manage to score mid-twenties and get a B grade in both faculty subjects. Lab practicals were their saving grace.
But while his marking scheme was so frightening, sir was a very polite person. He addressed us as a friend and was not threatening at all. Then there was the Theory of Computation taught by Dr. Astrid Kiehn. From a class of 60, 26 of us failed his course.
In spite of every hardship, I miss IIIT Delhi since graduating from this college.
ECE and CSE are somewhat similar considering they have similar foundational courses. As a result, CSE and ECE students can pick skills from the sister course.
Quite often, ECE students become great coders and get placed in IT companies while some CSE students seriously get into signals, circuitry, and robotics.
As for NSIT and IIIT Delhi cultural differences, ECE in NSIT and DTU are better known and regarded than ECE in IIIT Delhi interns of placements and course structure. IIIT Delhi is more famous for its CSE branch. So, choose IIIT Delhi only if you are willing to do a masters in CSE.
Dropping a year would not be a wise decision if you are genuinely interested in CSE, and have an option of joining IIIT Delhi. I don’t think the college name matters to the extent that you would be giving up on the chance of joining IIIT Delhi CS. In fact, it’s slowly making its own name and in a few years will be among the top engineering colleges in India. Moreover, your UG college is just a stepping stone and its brand name won’t matter much and does not correlate with one’s success.
Joining IIIT Delhi will open doors to multiple opportunities like working on big projects, exploring hobbies, and traveling. If you choose to take a drop year, you will be struggling again with the same exam just to get a better rank. Personally, I don’t think these exams are authentic measures of an individual’s aptitude for computer science.
A close friend of mine was in a similar dilemma and was about to take a drop year when his mother persuaded him against the decision he finally decided to join IIIT Delhi and later realized it to be the best decision of his life. The 4 years were an ethereal experience allowing him to explore his research interests, learn and apply what’s new in computer science, and grow as an individual. So, in your case too, taking a drop year isn’t advisable.
IIIT Delhi was initially established as a State University on a self-sustainable model. Although the Government has provided the land and the capital the University needs a lot of funds to sustain itself in the long run. The cost increases every year due to inflation and so to maintain the balance, IIIT Delhi is left with no option but to increase its fees.
However, IIITD has provisions for fee waivers for students with weak economic backgrounds. Students are also allowed to work as TAs or interns with faculty and receive compensation given that you have an excellent academic record.
So, the hike will not stop in the near future given the fact that IIIT Delhi is still in its developing phase.
One of my friends is a student of IIIT Delhi and he has visited IIIT Allahabad on a few occasions. Here is his insight about both the institute.
IIIT Allahabad:
IIIT Allahabad has witnessed a severe leadership change in the last few years. It had difficulties in retaining their faculties. A lot of students complaining about the previous Director, lack of faculty, hostels. The new Director is working to improve things, but it will require time.
There were a lot of negative stories about the place in the media in the past, but none of them seemed to have made an impact on admission. students recruitment. The institute has always attracted top JEE rankers.
IIIT Delhi:
On the other hand, IIIT Delhi has not only attracted top faculty but ensured their retention. The environment on campus is quite good. Both students and faculty seemed to be happier compared to IIIT Allahabad.
The table shows a brief overview of the institutions.

Overall, IIIT Delhi offers a much pleasant campus experience as compared to IIIT Allahabad. However, despite the negative publicity, IIIT Allahabad is quite reputed and attracts top JEE rankers, so, will have a great peer group. And if you genuinely want to learn, you can do that from IIIT Allahabad.
I will suggest you consider your own interests first rather than the placement scenario. For this, you can go through the course structure of both branches. If you still are unable to determine the right choice for yourself, go through the following pros and cons of both institutes
IIIT Delhi

Ultimately, choose what signs with your preferences.
I had the same choice in front of me a few years back. As a student of DTU, I can present before you some pros of choosing it over IIIT Delhi for CSE. These are-
However, the CSE curriculum at IIIT Delhi is more up-to-date. Also, as DTU has a huge number of students for CSE, the competition is high.
Despite these cons, I believe DTU CSE is a better choice. But your decision should be based on your personal preferences.
Truth be told, n=both CSB and ECE at IIT Delgi will be excellent academic decisions because IIIT Delhi is well-known for imparting quality education. You should consider your own inlciation whole choosing between CSB and ECE rather than the newness of the branch and its credibility because, at the end of the day, your interests matter more than anything. You won't be able to excel at even an old and well-established branch if you have no interest in it while may excel in a new branch if you are genuinely interested in it. So, the opportunities you will be offered depend on your passions.
You can go through the course descriptions mentioned on the institute's website. CSB might be a relatively new branch but IIIT Delhi has been offering biology courses. You can check the profiles of the faculty.
Remember, a new branch may impose certain disadvantages but so will a branch that does not intrigue you genuinely. There won't be any major difference in terms of higher studies and placements.
So, choose wisely!
Between IIIT Allahabad and IIIT Delhi, the former is the better option for CS. It offers better facilities are infrastructure, as the institute is fully funded by MHRD. On the other hand, IIIT Delhi isn’t funded by MHRD. It is also an Indraprastha institute and not an Indian institute.
IIIT A has a large alumni base working in top-level product development companies, this helps a lot with placements. As per the placement highlights for 2021, IIIT Allahabad CSE average package is INR 21.85 LPA.
The CSE department of the institute has an amazing faculty pool. Most of the faculty members have a minimum of 15-20 years of research experience in the core field of Computer Scienece and Engineering.
