How was your test and interview experience for an M.Tech at IIT Gandhinagar?

AS
Anisha Srivastav Posted On : August 2nd, 2023
Studied at Indian Institute of Technology, Gandhinagar (IITGN)

I completed my B.Tech ECE. Due to Covid-19, I got a direct interview call from IIT Gandhinagar for M.Tech ECE. I got interviewed on Google Meet.

Out of the four choices given to me, I opted for microelectronics and VLSI as my first preference. 20 minutes prior to the interview, I received a call from the technical supervisor asking me to be prepared. There were 3 panelists for my interview and all of them belonged to the Electrical Engineering Department of IIT Gandhinagar.

The interview started with a basic introduction and I was asked for my favorite subjects. After this, I was asked questions to assess my knowledge of the field. I am listing down the questions which the panel asked me-

  • What is the propagation delay in logic ckt, why does delay occur?
  • Explain NOR and NAND gate.
  • Explain BW of an amplifier.
  • Explain BW of the single pole system.
  • What are the conditions for which the gain BW product is constant?
  • Differentiate ideal and real op amp.
  • Draw a T C curve of both.
  • O/p for open loop op amp.
  • What is CMRR, and what is common mode gain?
  • What is the BW of (real) op amps?
  • Does Amplification violate energy conservation law?

The IIT Gandhinagar staff is quite helpful and supportive. I received 3 calls every 15 minutes to alert me before the interview. My interview went well and I got selected for the M.Tech program.

Is electronics and design technology for NIT Calicut worthy? How are the core placements for this branch?

MD
Megha Deb Posted On : March 23rd, 2021
Studied at National Institute of Technology, Calicut (2019)

To decide a course’s worth depends not only on the subjects dealt with but also on the aptitude/expectations of the student.

It would be good to keep in mind that power electronics is quite a vast field. Electronics Design and Technology is like any other specialization offered by NITC.

If you go in-depth you get to know that this course is a blend of VLSI and embedded/system design. If you are interested in the VLSI domain, then EDT is definitely your way. Most of the subjects are shared with Microelectronics & VLSI branches.

NIT Calicut

Highest CTC

Average CTC

4.08 LPA

Recruiting Companies

TI, Broadcom, Nvidia, Synopsys, etc.

Okay, let us take a look at the placement scenario:

  • Placements are a bit off for M.Tech students relative to B.Tech students at NITC.
  • Several core VLSI companies (TI, Broadcom, Nvidia, Synopsys, etc) end up hiring mostly B.Tech batch.
  • It also depends on your academics too.
  • Intel usually hires interns during the second year.
  • These internship opportunities are available only to VLSI and EDT students mainly.

Though, the chance for placement in core companies directly is relatively less. But, if you manage to maintain your CGPA on or above 8 you have a chance to get into a good internship opportunity. There will be internship opportunities available in companies like Broadcom, Intel, and Cypress.

Most of these guys selected will be converted to full-time after one year of internship. You can do an internship and Second-year M.Tech main project at the same time. If you are really good you can also try for an internship from other branches like Telecom and Signal Processing.

Can you share your M.Tech interview experience at IIT, Bhubaneswar?

SS
Shalini Sahu Posted On : June 16th, 2023
Studied at Indian Institute of Technology, Bhubaneswar (2018)

My friend completed her MTech in ECE recently from IIT BHU and shared her interview experience. She along with other candidates was made to give a written examination based on which they got shortlisted for the interview. The interview was conducted by a strong panel of 4 faculties. Soon she was summoned for an interview.

The questions the panelists asked her were

  • Give us your introduction
  • The college from where she completed her Bachelor's
  • Her favorite subject (Communication)
  • Several questions related to PCM
  • A few Questions on Quantization
  • Question on A2D conversion and D2A
  • The reason she chose IIT Bhubaneshwar for MTech

They asked her a few more general questions and concluded the interview which lasted for 15-20 mins. She realized that having proficiency in her favorite subject helped her. She advised her juniors to always go through the institution's official website and faculties before the interview. In case you recognize any of the faculties at the interview, you can impress them with the knowledge of their project you have. Overall, the interviewers asked more technical than personal questions.

Which is better - doing M.Tech from IITs or going for NITIE Mumbai?

RK
Rishabh Khandelwal Posted On : August 13th, 2021
Studied at Indian Institute of Technology, Roorkee (2019)

Having to know some people studying in both these colleges, I can say that they are equally good. You can opt for any one of them, their respective programs are also good. They are recognized as Centres of Excellence by MHRD, Govt of India.

The choice mainly depends on the individual and their preferences. You should go for the one you are enthusiastic about.

  • NITIE offers 3 courses, where the selection is through GATE scores.
  • These include Post Graduate Diploma in Industrial Engineering, Project Management, and Manufacturing Management.
  • These courses are a mixture of technical and business management.
  • IITs offer M.Tech through GATE exam scores.
  • It involves core specialization and nothing about industrial management.

So, the selection of the college and the course entirely depends on you. Go through them and then decide which will be a better option for your career.

Which one is better for an M.Tech in CSE, DIAT, Pune or newer NITs like NIT Durgapur, Goa, Puducherry, and Meghalaya?

AC
Adrija Choudhary Posted On : August 23rd, 2021
M.Tech from Defence Institute of Advance Technology, Pune

I have a friend who recently graduated in CSE from DIAT. According to her, DIAT fails to offer good opportunities to the students. It’s better to choose newer NITS.

  • Even though DIAT comes under the Ministry of Defense, the academics and facilities offered at the institute are not up to the mark.
  • The teachings, non-teaching as well as administrative people are not cooperative with the students.
  • Moreover, the placement cell doesn’t bring companies for placement as expected. They don’t even bring software companies like TCS or Infosys for placement.

So from this, you can draw an overview of how things are at DIAT. You can go for NIT Durgapur or NIT Goa. Even if you don’t get NITs, try for Government College of Engineering, Pune. It has better facilities and placements.
