MS in Computer Science is a research-oriented master’s program at IIT Ropar. There are around 5 to 7 courses you will need to take on for this course. It is different from a regular MTech Program.
You will be trained to gain expertise in this course to work on various research problems as well as expected to publish papers at esteemed international conferences and journals. MS in Computer Science is similar to Ph.D. but this program is for a short duration.
Work Experience: If you have work experience you will have an edge over others. Because if you have experience in industrial fields, working on practical problems will be easier for you. If you aim at working in the industrial field after the completion of your MS(R), with your industry experience you would be able to land a higher placement package than your fellow mates. Also in pursuing academics further, experience generally comes in handy.
Placements: Your placement and placement package depends on your skills and your academic achievement as well. If you have good marks in the master’s degree and you have formulated research papers worthy of appraisals then you do not need to worry. Industries would be more than delighted to have you. Although this is a new program, there is a slim chance of any challenge in your way of receiving good placements. In 2021, the average CTC offered at IIT Ropar was 12 LPA.
Overall, MS in CSE at IIT Ropar is a good course and offers decent opportunities.
NIT Rourkela is a premier engineering and technology institute in India that enjoys a strong reputation for its M.Tech program. The program is well-structured, with a focus on both theoretical and practical aspects of engineering and technology. Here are a few pros and cons of pursuing an MTech from NIT Rourkela
Pros
Cons
Overall, NIT Rourkela is considered to be a great choice for an M.Tech education.
The M.Tech program of Environmental Geotechnology at NIT Calicut is an interdisciplinary branch.
In the first semester, you will be taught about Geotechnological Engineering and in the second semester, you will learn about subjects that are in Environmental Engineering such as Groundwater Hydrology.
All in all, this course is more towards the Geotechnical side than the Environmental side. You also have to undertake projects. Usually, most people opt for Geotechnical projects.
Talking about the prospects of the future, L&T has been the only recruiters for some years now they recruited very few students pursuing postgraduate.
If you want to teach this course in the future, then pursuing it will be a good idea. It is definitely a good course but not the best. Join if you are interested in the course and not for the NIT tag.
The best part about IET Lucknow is the freedom it offers to the students. The college does not intend to restrict students to only academics. There is no pressure for attendance. However, some faculties might give weightage to attendance. So, if you can balance the academics and extracurricular, you can negotiate with them. Never give a chance to your teachers to point down your mistakes.
Consider the below-mentioned points for this.
Overall, the classes are skippable in IET Lucknow if you have a decent image in front of faculties. Currently, compulsory attendance of 60% as per the rules of the new director is required, but 50% attendance will let you sit in exams.
One of my friends completed his MTech in Biomedical Engineering from IIT Bombay and gave an insight into the placement scenario of the same course. Out of 16 students who attended placements from this course, 14 students were placed. Another friend told me that 11 out of 17 in his batch were placed under decent roles. The others opted out of placements.
A number of Biomedical companies like GE, Cerner, L&T etc visit the campus and offer decent roles. Many non core companies also allow Biomedical students to sit for their placements and sometimes offer good roles too.
A number of analytics and data science jobs are also offered. Top core roles offered here are Associate Analyst, Lab Analyst, etc. Many students even opt for PhD after MTech.

The Mechatronics branch in itself is not very developed in India irrespective of whichever institute offers it. IIT Patna is a new IIT and lacks the necessary resources and infrastructure while NIT Surathkal has a very challenging curriculum for MTech Mechatronics. The breakdown is 60% Mechanical and 40% Electronics. Students from other domains find it difficult to cope with the rigorous curriculum.
Although the faculty pool comprises good professors, the placement scenario is just average. So try looking for other options or go for IIT Patna instead.
Comparing institutes is rather subjective because everyone considers different parameters. When talking about NITs vs BITS, only the top NITs are a good option for MTech while BITS is definitely an equally good option.
Here are a few common aspects you would like to consider
BITS Pilani will help you grow as a person and even foster your extracurricular development.
The salary of an MTech graduate in Mechanical Engineering from IIT Bombay varies from branch to branch.
MTech students are usually hired by core companies that gain less profit than Software Companies and hence end up with lower packages than BTech students. Moreover, companies are aware that BTech students are all-rounders and thus prefer them to MTech students. However, the promotion of MTech students is faster than that of BTech students.
The course structure is very similar to that of the full-time course with very few exceptions like
Apart from these, both part-timers and full-timers can access the same lab facilities, attend the same classes and sit for the same exams and are also evaluated together.
If you are going to take admission for M.Tech in any of these colleges it will be worth the choice. All are quite established and are doing great in curriculum and placements.
But there is always the best among the rest and hence, I would like to suggest you opt for NIT Durgapur. It beats both IIIT Allahabad and IIITM Gwalior. Also, regarding the two IIITs, IIIT Allahabad certainly does better than IIITM Gwalior in competitive programming and placements
Categories | NIT Durgapur | IIIT Allahabad | IIITM Gwalior |
Course Fee | 1.32 lakhs | 1.60 lakhs | 1.84 lakhs |
Highest CTC | 24 LPA | 25 LPA | 19 LPA |
Average CTC | 8-10 LPA | 12 LPA | 11 LPA |
Recruiting Companies | Wipro, Infosys, etc. | Accenture, HP, etc. | Capgemini, Cognizant, etc. |
It is suggested you go for NIT Durgapur. Definitely, do your side of research as well for a clear choice among all the three colleges.
