Should I wait for one year and try for an MBA or join PUMBA as a fresher?

PS
Parag Sinha Posted On : May 25th, 2023
Department of Management Sciences, University of Pune (PUMBA)

If you are a fresher, I advise you to give it another go and take the CAT, XAT, and other management tests the following year. A high CAT percentile will lead to various opportunities for you.

It can be worthwhile to wait and reapply if you are convinced that you can raise your profile during the following year and get accepted into a more prestigious MBA program that better fits your professional objectives.

On the other hand, entering PUMBA might be a good choice right now if you want to start your career early and obtain job experience. Executive MBA programs can be pursued at a later time in your career.

Among IMI (Delhi), SIIB (Pune) or MICA (Ahmedabad), which of these colleges would be the best for pursuing an MBA in marketing?

MP
Mohan Potdar Posted On : March 14th, 2023
MBA from International Management Institute (Graduated 2018)

Among IMI (Delhi), SIIB (Pune), or MICA (Ahmedabad) for an MBA in Marketing, MICA should be your top choice. It's known for providing unparalleled education in Branding, Communication, and Marketing. Although the fee for all the colleges mentioned is on the higher side, the question of ROI does not arise when it comes to MICA's reputation and quality of education.

IMI New Delhi is a decent college, but it's not particularly known for anything specific. On the other hand, SIIB is part of a cluster of colleges and is sought after mainly for the Symbiosis brand. However, MICA has a unique identity and reputation for producing some of the finest marketing and communication specialists in the industry.

Choosing MICA as your B-school will provide you with exposure to a rich and diverse culture, along with an unparalleled learning experience in Marketing and Communication. The college has an exceptional faculty, top-notch infrastructure, and a wide range of industry tie-ups that provide students with ample opportunities to gain practical experience.

MICA's alumni network is also a significant advantage, with graduates holding leadership positions in top organizations globally. Overall, if you're looking to specialize in Marketing and Communication, MICA should be your top choice, given its unparalleled reputation and focus on the field.

How is IBS Hyderabad for MBA co-curricular, extra curriculum, campus life, and environment?

SG
Shubham Gupta Posted On : February 28th, 2023
Studied at ICFAI Business School, Hyderabad

In pursuing an MBA at IBS Hyderabad, a case-based study methodology is utilized for teaching. The professor will provide a case for every class, and students must prepare for the case by reviewing relevant chapters and linking the concepts to the practical example discussed in the case. During class, the professor will manage the discussions on the case and students will present their viewpoints, which may be accepted or countered by the professor. The professor will guide the discussions to ensure the correct understanding of concepts is reached. In some instances, concepts will be taught by the professor. However, the college encourages self-study and does not spoon-feed the students.

A wide range of student clubs is available on campus, covering various fields. Each club is managed by students with a professor acting as a mentor. The clubs are responsible for conducting various activities such as quizzes, treasure hunts, guest lectures, movie screenings, sports competitions, and more. These clubs provide students with exposure to event management.

Annual events include a festival in January, where all clubs are responsible for preparing different events, and an annual sports fest organized by the sports club, where students from different colleges participate.

IBS Hyderabad offers a vibrant campus life with facilities such as a resort-like environment, two food messes, two cafeterias, an all-night cafeteria, and a well-equipped gym. The clubs schedule events during weekends and the college have a bus service to the city. On weekdays, buses run only in the evenings while on weekends they run throughout the day. Food festivals are regularly organized in the food messes, and there are many small dhabas and restaurants near the campus to cater to students' taste buds.

Should I pursue my MBA in Canada from a mediocre university (like McMaster or UBC), or should I get into a new IIM (Shillong, Udaipur, etc.) in India if I ultimately want to settle down in Canada?

PD
Pinaka Dasgupta Posted On : January 16th, 2023
B Tech in Computer Engineering, Terna Engineering College (Graduated 2022)

If you have already decided to settle abroad, investing your time and money in the new IIMs is useless. You should start looking for the top B Schools in your preferred country. Moreover, the IIMs, even the older ones, have a non-existent international scope.

So why invest so much money in something that will not improve your chances of settling abroad? To make it easier I have listed a few Canadian Business Schools that are the most preferred ones.

  1. University of Toronto
  2. University of Western Ontario
  3. York University
  4. University of British Columbia
  5. McMaster University

It’s amazing that you have been shortlisted for 2 of these amazing universities. I suggest you go for them instead of IIMs.

The one-year MBA programs are full-time residential courses offered by various IIMs. These programs have a lot of credibilities. Some major shifts you will experience after completing this program are

  • Your Management skills will have been upgraded

Is it worth going to NMIMS Hyderabad for MBA (with regard to ROI)? Is dropping this year and appearing for the CAT next year a better option?

RS
Rita Somani Posted On : July 22nd, 2022

NMIMS Mumbai is the best campus. It offers excellent placements. NMIMS Mumbai placements 2022 had witnessed the highest CTC of INR 57.65 LPA. If you can afford to drop a year, prepare rigorously for CAT and other entrances such as NMAT, XAT, IIFT, etc. It is the best option.

Which one is better for an MBA fresher, DoMS IIT Madras or IIM Amritsar?

A
Admin Posted On : July 1st, 2024

The Department of Management Studies (DoMS) of IIT Madras was established in 2004 (and IITM has been delivering MBA studies since 2001). On the other hand, IIM Amritsar was established on July 27, 2015. IIT Madras is the first IIT to open its doors to enthusiasts from streams other than engineering. These degrees include- MBA, B.A., B.Sc., B.Com., etc.

Given below are some factors by which you can analyze which is better for an MBA as a fresher:

Particulars MBA at IIT Madras MBA at IIM Amritsar
Specializations Finance, HR&B, Information Systems, Integrative Management, Marketing, and Operations. General MBA
Curriculum 1st Year: Data Analytics, Basics of Accounting, Spreadsheet Modelling, Financial Accounting, Marketing Management I, Operations Management, etc.
2nd Year: Business Models, Contemporary Issues in Management, Behavioural Lab etc.
First Year: basic Financial Accounting, Management Accounting, Business Research Methods, Corporate Finance, Fundamentals of Marketing, Fundamentals of Operations Management etc.
2nd Year: Investment Analysis & Portfolio Management, Entrepreneurship and New Venture Management, Strategic Consulting, Design Thinking & Innovation, Financial Modeling.
Total Fee  INR 17 lakhs. INR 12 Lakhs
Placement  Highest CTC: INR 29.65 LPA
Average CTC: INR 16.93 LPA
Highest CTC: INR 20.57 LPA.
Average CTC: INR 16.51 LPA

I would suggest you choose DoMS, IIT Madras over IIM Amritsar since the former has a legacy and a stronger industry connection. IIM Amritsar has just stepped into this race. Moreover, IIT Madras offers a wide range of specializations in its MBA program.

I have converted IMI, Bhubaneswar & IMS, Ghaziabad for PGDM. Which one is better?

TS
Tanya Saha Posted On : May 3rd, 2021
PGDM from Institute of Management Studies, Ghaziabad (2018)

I believe that IMS is a better choice than IMI. Some of the main reasons supporting my arguments include :

The fee structure is one factor that differentiates these two colleges. There is a huge difference in the fees of these two colleges with IMS having lesser fees.

IMS offers specialization in 4 fields - Finance, Marketing, HR, and Operations and its main focus is on developing learning habits in the students which is very beneficial in the long run. Students can choose any of the 2 specializations from these 4 at the beginning of their second year. Both specializations will be given equal priority.

IMS focuses more on practical skills and offers a practical environment to its students. Placements are also satisfactory and the average package offered to students is 3-5 LPA.

Categories

IMI Bhubaneswar

IMS Ghaziabad

Course Fee

12.47 lakh

7.95 lakh

Placement Percentage

90%

90-100%

Highest CTC

17 LPA

15-20 LPA

Average CTC

8 LPA

6 LPA

Recruiting Companies

Amazon, Flipkart, IBM, Jaro Education, etc.

ITC, Deloitte, ICICI, Intel, etc.

Location is the other main factor to consider, IMS is situated in Ghaziabad which comes in NCR. It is connected with Noida. As most of the companies have their offices located in Noida, companies visiting the campus are much higher and it is also easy for the students to approach the companies.
